Message of the Week: Anointing for Superior Values

Sam Adeyemi
Acts 10:38
The work of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life can fall into two categories  the gifts of the Spirit and the fruits of the Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit empowers a person to solve problems for others, it is expressed externally; conversely, the fruits of the Spirit is expressed internally, it addresses the quality of a person, the Holy Spirit brings power to create positive changes in a person's life.

While Jesus was on earth, He was the epitome of love and He demonstrated values that superseded the prevalent values of His time. The Holy Spirit worked through Jesus Christ, not only to perform miracles, but through the character and values He exhibited. A typical example is when He prayed for the people who taunted, tormented and tortured Him on the cross. Jesus exemplified God's quality of life and because of the compassion He felt for people, God's power flowed through Him to solve problems for humanity.

The power of the Holy Spirit works to deliver us from a nature of self-centeredness. In ACTS 2, after the disciples had been baptized with the Holy Spirit, they demonstrated love in an unprecedented manner and the people who joined them sold their possessions to meet the needs of those who lacked. Also, the disciples who formerly struggled for positions of authority lived together in one accord after the Holy Spirit came on them. Another evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life is joy. Joy displaces depression.

Being anointed goes beyond exhibiting the gifts of the Spirit, it involves living a more excellent way which is the love way. We can only succeed in living out superior values by living through the Spirit. People mostly want the anointing for personal breakthroughs but with the help of the Holy Spirit we can love people sacrificially and live out the right values. Living out the right values needs courage. It takes courage to live according to the word, because the world's system will attempt to force us to live contrary to the word but with the anointing of the Holy Spirit to exemplify the right values, we will still prosper.
