Balotelli - I'll walk off pitch, I won't tolerate racial abuse.

The Manchester City and Italy striker was speaking amid fears of potential racism at the tournament in Ukraine and Poland.

"I hope there will not be a problem at the Euros because if it does happen I would straight away leave the pitch and go home. We are in 2012, it can't happen."

"If someone throws a banana at me in the street, I will go to prison because I will kill him. Racism is unacceptable."

The 21-year-old was regularly a target of racist abuse while playing in Italy.

Balotelli also said he believes he is a genius and smarter than most people.

"I think I am a genius, but not a rebel," he said. "I have my life, my world, I do what I want, without annoying anyone.

"I believe I am more intelligent than the average person.

"The talent God gave me is beautiful and wonderful, but it is difficult because you are always facing other people keen to judge you.

"There are few people with such talent, so there are few able to judge what I am doing."

Terrence J, Rocsi Leaving 106 & Park

Two of BET's brightest stars are moving on to new adventures.  Terrence J and Rocsi, the popular hosts of 106 & Park for the past seven years, will be leaving the show.  Stephen J. Hill, President of Music Programming & Specials for BET Networks, confirms the news in a statement: "Today, after seven exciting years, 106 & Park hosts Terrence J and Rocsi announced that they will be leaving the show. It is no secret that there are a number of opportunities coming their way and we're fortunate that they've been with 106 & Park for so long. They will be staying on the show for a while, so that we can have a "victory lap" - a celebration of their years at the helm of 106 & Park - before their departure. Terrence J and Rocsi are destined for great success and we at BET Networks will always take pride in being their original home - and be a place where I hope they'll always feel welcome." Terrence and Rocsi made an emotional announcement on today's 106 & Park, sharing stories from their years on the show. "The first day I cracked the mic on 106, I was staying on a cot in a basement," Terrence said, while Rocsi added, "Until the moment we leave, we pledge to bring you young Black culture. It continues to be our honor to do this for you." The co-hosts recalled memorable events they covered over the years, including the Haiti earthquake, the deaths of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and the inauguration of the nation's first Black president.  "We are humbled at the opportunity to be a part of your lives," Terrence summed up, before promising that "we have a huge farewell show coming for you guys. We're going to be leaving with a bang." While neither have elaborated on future plans, both likely have plenty of opportunities in Hollywood. Terrence recently starred in the smash hit comedy Think Like a Man, while Rocsi holds supporting roles in Gang of Roses 2: Next Generation and the upcoming drama Soul Ties.

Kanye West Wants To Make Amusement Parks

Forget Disneyland or Universal Studios, you could be visiting Kanye West-world in the future if Yeezy's grand plan comes to fruition.

The rapper has told GQ magazines that his ambitions lie beyond the music, fashion and film projects that he is currently involved with.

He said: "What I want to do post-Grammys is I want to work on cities, I want to work on amusement parks, I want to change entertainment experiences or life."

And explaining what they would be like, he added: "Something like if McQueen or Tarsem [Singh] was to meet the entertainment value of a Cirque du Soleil or a Walt Disney."

Kanye gave his interview to GQ at Cannes, where he was representing his movie Cruel Summer - an experimental seven-screen art film which stars fellow rapper Kid Cudi.

Liverpool renew interest in Swansea's Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool have renewed attempts to discuss their vacant managerial post with Swansea's Brendan Rodgers.

Owner John W Henry arrived on Merseyside on Tuesday to personally oversee the recruitment process. Having spoken to Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, Liverpool have gone back to Rodgers to discuss the position.

Rodgers 39, met Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins on Tuesday morning but the Welsh club insist the manager's future was not discussed. Martinez has yet to hear back from Liverpool, but Henry is understood to have been impressed with him when the pair met in Miami last week and was keen to speak to him a second time.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has given Liverpool until Thursday to decide whether they will offer the Spaniard a contract. Swans boss Rodgers is open to negotiations having been assured he is a genuine contender, though no deal has yet been agreed at this stage.

Liverpool have, however, spoken with representatives of Rodgers, to impress on the Northern Irishman just how highly they rate him. Rodgers, who secured the £7m record signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson earlier this week, will not walk away from Swansea lightly.

It is understood Swansea would be expecting £5m in compensation if Rodgers was to depart for Liverpool.

His commitment to the club is genuine but having turned Liverpool down 10 days ago because he feared becoming involved in a race with multiple candidates, he is now understood to be taking Liverpool's interest more seriously.

ASUU, SNG, Aturu, Sargay & Others Differ over President Goodluck Jonathan’s Renaming of UNILAG

Various individuals and groups have continued to react to the announcement made by President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday over the renaming of University of Lagos. President Jonathan announced during the Democracy Day broadcast that the name of the institution would be changed from University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University in honour of the late Chief M.K.O Abiola.

Minutes after the announcement, hundreds of students of the institution poured out on to the streets to protest the school's renaming.

The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos branch, Dr Karo Ogbinaka, has said that the union will resist the recent change of the university's name.

"We are resisting it, all the unions and the students will resist it, the Alunmus will resist it. The truth about the whole thing is that it shows the level of intelligence of those people in government. Nobody will change Harvard's name, nobody will change Cambridge's name to Winston Churchill University. University of Lagos is a brand, for 50 years. The first university established by Act of Parliament and one man trying to score cheap political point. When people go outside and you ask them what University are you from? What name will you pronounce? They'll ask is it a new university? Is it the name of a toothpaste? It's a senseless thing and are going to resist it," Karo said.

The Save Nigeria Group through their spokesman, Yinka Odumakin also released a statement yesterday against the renaming of University of Lagos.

'The Save Nigeria Group(SNG) while acknowledging the eternal place of Bashorun M.K.O Abiola, the winner of June 12 elections, in the political history of Nigeria and would want the highest possible honor done to him; deplores the indecent manner in which President Goodluck Jonathan has re-named the University of Lagos after him.

It is high time President Jonathan embraced a democratic mindset and stop behaving like maximum ruler.
We restate our demand that M.K.O Abiola must be given a befitting honor or the sacrifices he made for democracy in Nigeria in a decent and worthy manner.'

A constitutional lawyer, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), said the President should be praised for his effort to immortalise Abiola, adding that he, however, made a wrong choice in choosing UNILAG.

He noted that the president could have named one of the nine federal universities being constructed by the government in honour of the late acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

"This would have been less contentious because they are yet to be given any names and have no identity of their own unlike UNILAG", Sagay added.

Conversely, some people have lauded the name change by the President. Mr Bamidele Aturu, a human rights activist, said the president had the power to change the name of the institutioņ stressing that nothing was actually wrong with the name change.

"The Federal Government has the power to change the name of any of its institution but it must be done with approval of the University's council. If the UNILAG Council did not approve the name to be changed, then there will be a problem because it means that due process has not been followed".

A former Minister of Education, Mrs Chinwe Obaji, said that the decision to rename the school after Abiola was a welcome development.

"I do not see anything wrong with the change because it has to do with what is their brief and so, there is nothing wrong with that. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) , for instance, has it in the constitution establishing it that the name must not be changed and so it would remain. Moshood Abiola deserves to be honoured because he was a symbol of democracy, no matter whatever anyone thinks," she said.

Also, Mr. Abdul Abiola, son of late Chief M.K.O Abiola said there was nothing wrong with the naming of the university after his father.

"We are shocked by the reactions trailing this development. My late father believed so much in education. He donated money to universities across the nation. Naming a university after him was a well-deserved honour. We are happy about it and we are yet to understand the rationale behind people going up in arms over this," he said.

Meanwhile, students of the institution have threatened to block the Third Mainland Bridge and major roads in Lagos with protests if the name change is not reversed soon

UNILAG students protest as GEJ names school after Abiola

The Federal Government has renamed the prestigious University of Lagos, Moshood Abiola University, President Goodluck Jonathan announced this morning Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

Jonathan who delivered a presidential speech at 8am to mark the May 29 democracy day said the Federal Executive Council's decision to rename the tertiary institution located in the nation's former capital was to honour and immortalize the late politician Moshood Abiola who won the annulled June 12, 1993 election.

Abiola died in government's custody on July 7, 1998.

In related news, reports say students of the university are not happy with the name change and they have 'rejected it', with some who are currently on campus gathering and taking to the school gate to stage a protest.

Eye witnesses say that students are chanting anti-government slogans, with the university's Director of Student Affairs, Professor Olukayode Amund, begging the students and calling for caution.

The school recently lost its Vice Chancellor Adetokunbo Sofoluwe.

Carl Froch - "I would have quit if I had lost"

Carl Froch admitted retirement was on the cards if he had lost to Lucian Bute on Saturday night. As it happened Froch claimed the IBF super-middleweight title with a one-sided five round demolition job on the Romanian-born Canadian in Nottingham.

Froch paid tribute to his team, from long-time trainer and mentor Rob McCracken to Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.

"If I'd have lost tonight, I would have announced my retirement, that's how close it was. But with a performance like that, I'm just so excited about the future it's unbelievable."

And he said a victory had never given him more pleasure - one that opens many doors for the future.

"I feel so happy, so elated," he told Sky Sports. "That performance, I'm giving it to Rob McCracken. I have a lot of conversations with Eddie Hearn and his dad Barry and they talk a lot of sense.

"They talk from the heart, and so does Rob for that matter. And because I've got that team around me it drives me on. I've got a little boy Rocco and a beautiful partner Rachel, and tonight I came here to do it for myself. "It was all or nothing. If I'd have lost tonight, I would have announced my retirement, that's how close it was. But with a performance like that, I'm just so excited about the future it's unbelievable."

Froch had kind words for Bute, adding: "Big respect to Lucian. He's a great champion, undefeated world champion, everybody was saying how great he was, how he can punch, and let me tell you he can punch. He hit me with some good shots.

"I don't know what else to say, I'm elated."

Onyeka shuns COSON appointment, calls elections a coup

Few weeks ago, Nigerian singer Onyeka Onwenu was appointed as a member of the newly inaugurated Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) advisory board. We've now been told the singer turned politician has openly rejected the appointment.

The veteran musician was appointed alongside with Sir Victor Uwaifo, Dan Maraya Jos, Onyeka Onwenu, Laolu Akins, Sunny Neji,  Toju Ejueyitchie,  Ben Ofoeze, Ossy Affason and  Dayo Ogunyemi,  at the second annual general meeting  of the association held  on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Eko FM hall, Agidingbi, Lagos.

According to her, 'I received with consternation the news that I have been appointed as a member of COSON Advisory Board. I was never contacted or informed by COSON directly until this appointment was announced on the pages of newspapers'.

She also added, 'The idea of an Advisory Council is that of Tony Okoroji.  He raised it at the last COSON General Meeting, right before the pre-determined election of a new board. It was not a decision of the old board and certainly not the new one which is made up of people who will rubber stamp his decision'.

'Ordinarily, if properly canvassed with a sincere purpose, an Advisory Council for COSON would not be a bad idea', Onyeka said, according to The Vanguard.

She continues 'As it is, the move was made to ameliorate the impact of the coup, the schemes and shenanigans that characterised the last board elections; where people like Chief Ebenezer Obey, Laolu Akins, Toju Ejueyitchie, Charlimo, Sikiru Agbola and myself, all who are on the board as sticklers for due process, were schemed out by a well selected list of voters, most of whom had proxies.  Well, we are not fooled, I hereby reject my appointment', she concluded.

Chris Brown Accused of Bribing Grammy Official

Chris Brown has been a lightning rod for controversy over the years, as he just can't stay out of the public eye in terms of negativity, but the latest allegation against the R&B singer may be the most serious yet.

The allegation stems from Chris Brown's win at this year's Grammy Awards, which some are alleging, he didn't win fair and square. The man responsible for Brown's Grammy nod, producer Ken Ehrlich was fired a few months after the award show for what was described as "indiscretion and violation of the Academy's ethics and integrity in rewarding talent."

These violations may or may not be result of Brown paying Ehrlich a substantial sum of money, which was brokered through a series of e-mails that were exchanged between the 2. The money was alleged to have been made to ensure a win for Brown.

Another piece of this story is Neil Portnow, President of The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, who released this statement addressing the situation:

"With almost ten years of being President for The Academy, I would have never predicted that this would happen. My lack of blessing for Chris' nomination was known, but as I've always respected my colleagues' insights, I mustered all I could not to fight it so much. I have worked alongside Ken for years now, and I am heavily disappointed, and will have to raise the conduct around this board. I will see to it that nothing of this caliber of humiliation will happen again."

Chris Brown and his reps obviously deny these claims, but if these claims turn out to be true, he may end of being a bigger villain than after the viciously assaulted former girlfriend Rihanna a few years ago

Verdasco stuns Nadal in Madrid

15th seed snaps Nadal's 22-game winning streak on clay

Image text here
Fernando Verdasco: Finally gets the better of his compatriot Rafael Nadal

Fernando Verdasco finally got the better of clay-court king Rafael Nadal at the 14th time of asking to advance to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters.
Madrid native Verdasco surprised an out of sorts World No.2 Nadal with a 6-3 3-6 7-5 triumph.
Verdasco broke his Davis Cup team-mate's serve seven times on the blue clay of the Manolo Santana show court and clubbed 31 winners to his opponent's 19 to set up a last-eight clash against Tomas Berdych.
Nadal came into the contest 13-0 in sets on clay against Verdasco, but the 28-year-old, who has enjoyed some strong results on the surface this season broke to take a 4-2 lead, capitalising on some uncharacteristic mistakes by Nadal before eventually serving out the set.
Nadal, who has dominated his countryman in head-to-head meetings, hit back at the start of the second set by breaking in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead.
But although the number 15 seed broke back in the seventh game, he handed the initiative straight back following a crucial double fault allowing Nadal to coolly serve out the set.
The six-times French Open champion then let a 5-2 lead slip in the deciding set as he twice failed to serve out the match in an error-strewn contest.
And Verdasco powered back into the set producing some of his best tennis to level at 5-5 before sealing a famous win with yet another crashing forehand by breaking Nadal for the third time in the set in just over three hours of gruelling tennis.
The victory also ended Nadal's 22-game winning streak on clay since losing in the Rome final last year to Novak Djokovic.
"After losing so many times against honestly the best player on clay ever, to beat him on clay is the maximum," said an emotional Verdasco. "I don't have words."
Verdasco will now play Czech sixth seed Berdych, who ended the injury comeback effort of Frenchman Gael Monfils, the 12th seed, with a 6-1 6-1 victory.
Monfils was playing for the first time since a March abdominal muscle problem. The flamboyant French player lost serve five times while never earning a break point against Berdych.
Number three seed Roger Federer cruised past Richard Gasquet 6-3 6-2 in double-quick time to advance to the next round of the tournament.
The Swiss ace has now won 42 of his last 45 matches since last year's US Open semi-final loss (to Novak Djokovic) and he also extended his overall head-to-head record over Frenchman Gasquet to 10-2.

Haye-Chisora confirmed

British heavyweights to go head-to-head on July 14

Image text here
The scene at the Upton Park press conference

An all-British grudge match between David Haye and Dereck Chisora will take place at West Ham United's Upton Park ground on July 14, it has been confirmed.
The two heavyweights famously brawled at a press conference in Munich in February after Chisora had just his world-title fight with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko the previous night.
Following the violent scenes, Chisora saw his licence to box taken away by the British Boxing Board of Control. Haye currently does not hold a BBBOC licence either having officially retired last year after losing his WBA world title to Vitali's brother, Wladimir.
The all-British fight has subsequently had to be sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation.
Tuesday's press conference at Upton Park, in which Haye and Chisora's camps were separated by a seven-foot steel fence, was again heated with the two men exchanging insults.
"He is the ideal opponent for me," Haye said. "I am so glad he has got a good chin because if he didn't have a good chin he would be blasted out in first round. This means I will give him a nice, slow, concussive beating.

Talk is cheap

"I tried to knock him out in Munich and this is the opportunity to shut him up."
Chisora, flanked by eight burly security guards, angrily retorted: "I don't like him. David, you need to get style. Your corn rows are out of fashion.
"Talk is cheap now. That was a lucky shot he hit me with in Munich. David: you are winning 1-0 but come July I am coming to whoop your ass.
"Your talk is cheap. You always talk but you don't deliver in the ring."
Promoter Frank Warren insisted that he was not undermining the British Boxing Board of Control by going to Luxembourg for the fight's licence.
"This is not the end of British boxing," Warren said. "I believe it will be a sell-out, a huge event. There are far, far worse things happening in sport than what's happening here.
"No charges have been made against Haye or Dereck for what happened in Munich.
"The (licence appeal) hearing was put back to July so Dereck will have effectively been out of the ring for six months and that equates, if he was a footballer, to being out of action for 24 matches," Warren added.
"He has lost half of his purse in sanctions and costs since the Klitschko fight. He has no qualifications, the next thing for him to do would be to sign on.
"He is not banned from boxing. The fight has been licensed by the governing body in Luxembourg, which has the same standards as the British Boxing Board of Control.
"It is the biggest fight of the year and the fact of the matter is that the fight is legal, lawful and will go ahead."

Title fight KO for Khan

Peterson's failed drug test forces cancellation

Image text here
Amir Khan's fight with Lamont Peterson has been called off

Amir Khan's world title rematch against Lamont Peterson has been cancelled following the American champion's failed drugs test.
It emerged earlier this week that Peterson, who controversially beat Khan in December to capture the Bolton fighter's WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles, had tested positive for a banned steroid.
The news cast doubt over the pair's May 19 rematch in Las Vegas - with Golden Boy Promotions and Khan himself now confirming that the bout has been scrapped.
Khan took to Twitter to announce the clash would not go ahead and laid the blame solely at Peterson's door, before his promoters confirmed the bout was off.
Khan tweeted: "The fight is off! sorry everyone the only person to blame is @kingpete26 I'll be looking for a opponent to fight June 30th."
Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer had revealed that Peterson tested positive for a banned steroid, raising questions over whether the Mandalay Bay showdown would go ahead as the Nevada State Athletic Commission considered whether to grant him a licence.
Khan's team seemed open to the bout going ahead but remained cautious, insisting earlier in the week that the fight was still on for the time being, before the British fighter began making ominous comments on Twitter on Wednesday night.

Disadvantage

"We are waiting now on the Vegas Commission, to make a final decision," he tweeted.
"Petersons camp admitted they took he took the testosterone before the first fight.
"I've worked so hard since the age of 8 to achieve my goals and dreams in the sport and Boxing is a dangerous sport a toe to toe battle someone can seriously get hurt especially with an unfair Disadvantage, we need to put a stop to this, I still believe they are my belts, I want to thank everyone for their support.
"Let's hope the right thing will be done!"
He then tweeted that the fight was off, with Golden Boy confirming the news soon after.
A statement from Golden Boy read: "A failed pre-fight drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), coupled with the Nevada State Athletic Commission's (NSAC) legal inability to hold a formal hearing on the matter of licensing Lamont Peterson for his Saturday, May 19 rematch against Amir Khan until Tuesday, May 15, has forced the cancellation of the event."
According to Schaefer, Peterson tested positive on both 'A' and 'B' samples from a test submitted in March. However, a subsequent, separate test submitted in April was found to be negative.
The issue was referred to the NSAC, who were due to hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 15, but Golden Boy decided that would be too close to the fight.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer said: "The commission were due to have a special meeting on May 15. I'm guessing that's not enough time for the promotion.
"We'd be willing still to do that for the good of the sport and the other fighters, the fighters on the undercard.
"It's their call [Peterson's camp] whether they want to request that meeting."
