Lampard: He's the kind of manager I want to play for
Frank Lampard would 'love' to work with Roy
Hodgson at this summer's European Championship and believes the new
England manager is a perfect fit for the role.
The West Brom head coach was on Wednesday appointed by the Football
Association on a four-year contract and he will begin his international
duties at the end of the Premier League season.
Tottenham's Harry Redknapp, Lampard's uncle, was the favourite to be appointed as successor to Fabio Capello, but FA chairman David Bernstein and Club England decided on Hodgson.
Reaction around the world to the 64-year-old's appointment has been slightly underwhelming, with Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes admitting he is not very knowledgeable about England's new boss.
But Chelsea midfielder Lampard said in an interview broadcast by Sky Sports News: "It is a good appointment. He is a very experienced manager - international experience and club football experience.
"Ideally, if I put in good performances in the season and can be involved in the squad, he is the sort of manager you love to work with."
Lampard, 33, is not certain to be involved in England's squad for the Euro 2012 finals, but having helped Chelsea to Saturday's FA Cup final and the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern later in May, his experience could be useful.
Hodgson said at a media conference when he was unveiled on Wednesday: "I have to give the squad and the selection an awful lot of thought. It's early in the day for me to give assurances in that matter.
"I would add that the players who have been very important for England getting to the tournament deserve a lot of consideration."
