22-YEAR OLD NIGERIAN CREATES OUTSTANDING RECORD IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITY

He's a genius! Emmanuel Ohuabunwa, a 22-year-old Nigerian recently created an outstanding academic record at John Hopkins University, United States of America after he made a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of 4.0 in a degree in Neurosciences.

By virtue of this award, he has won a scholarship to Yale University to pursue a degree in medicine and has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Society, a prestigious honour group that features membership of 17 US Presidents, 37 US Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Prize winners.

In an online interview with PUNCH correspondent, the Abia State native who left the Nigerian shores at 13 narrated his ordeal in the hands of racists, "I went to Fondren Middle School, which was in the middle of the ghetto. That was one of the darkest years for me because I encountered a lot of peer pressure.

Some of the students, ignorant about Africa, bullied me and called me names such as 'African booty scratcher' because to them, Africans were dirty and scratched their butts all the time. Some asked me if I lived in mud huts and ate faeces for breakfast. I remember one day, when I was walking to the school bus, a boy came from behind and punched me in the face, called me an African and walked away. It took everything in me not to retaliate. I knew that God had put me in the U.S for a purpose and it did not involve fighting or selling drugs or doing the wrong things.

On his choice of course Ohuabunwa said, "I studied Neuroscience, because I was fascinated with the brain, its control of our behaviours and how various diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, lead to a decline in its activity.
I also minored in Psychology because I wanted to understand disorders in the psyche. What causes bipolar disorders or schizophrenia. I did not just want to label them as crazy but to understand what causes these conditions and how we can treat them,'' he explained.

His ambition is to become a Neurosurgeon and help his country Nigeria.

"I am absolutely interested in the health care policy decisions in Nigeria. Because there are many changes that need to occur, I will not rule out the possibility of coming back after my studies, in order to join hands with the leaders to make these changes possible.''

CHRIS BROWN AND DRAKE OFFERED $1 MILLION TO FIGHT IN BOXING RING

The difference is money will be involved this time around. Another interesting angle is the organizer wants Rihanna to be the ring lady! How funny!

And who suggested this?
Damon Feldman a Boxing promoter deemed it necessary to organize a rematch after the duo engaged in fisticuffs on June 15 at Manhattan's W.i.P. nighclub over Rihanna, whom they dated.

A certain billionaire named Alki David would pay each 'celebrity fighter' $1 million and would donate an additional $1 million to charity. The fight would be held either in Las Vegas or Los Angeles on August 25.

Though it is very unlikely the fight will ever happen but 50 Cent already knows the winner.

He told MTV News Chris Brown would be slipping and moving "I don't see Drake doing that. Chris be havin' his shirt off. He got one of them MMA fighter looks."

Church members barred from discussing Okotie’s failed marriage

If you're a member of House Hold of God, you know this piece of information is correct. Members of Chris Okotie's church have been barred from discussing his failed marriage, either in secret or in the open. The members were warned advised that it is in the best interest of the church not to discuss Chris Okotie, Stephanie Henshaw or their failed marriage...saying something about 'getting rid of the finger that could lead them to hell."

The warning came after some church members were approached by members of the press to talk about what could have led to the disintegration of the four year old marriage.

President Goodluck Jonathan makes Another Surprise Sack – Removes NNPC Boss & Executive Directors

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday made another surprising sack of top government officials which has sent the country debating over his recent actions. Only last week, he sacked his National Security Adviser and Defence Minister over what he claimed to be "to conform with the changing tactics of the Boko Haram insurgency".

However, yesterday's shake up had nothing to do with Boko Haram. He removed the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Austen Oniwon, and three group executive directors.

Mr. Oniwon was asked to go on compulsory retirement.

The GEDs sent packing alongside Oniwon are Mr. Michael Arokodare, in charge of Finance and Accounts; Mr. Phillip Chukwu, Refineries & Petrochemicals; Mr. Billy Agha, Engineering & Technology.

In a statement by the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the affected officials are expected to proceed on retirement immediately and a new GMD, Mr. Andrew Yakubu was named to replace the outgoing one.

He commended the outgoing directors for their service to the nation and urged the new management team to be fully committed to rapidly implementing the critical interventions needed to positively transform Nigeria's petroleum industry.

The new NNPC GMD, Mr. Yakubu graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1979 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

He joined the NNPC in 1980. Positions he has held in the corporation include Managing Director of the Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company and Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production).

He is an indigene of Kaduna State and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

According to some analysts, Mr. Yakubu's appointment was to satisfy the federal character demand of the country: a northerner NNPC GMD under a petroleum minister from the Niger Delta.

However, there has been several calls for the President to remove the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke. The cry has been that there could be no such rot in the oil sector with the head allowed to keep her office.

The President, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, Mr. Afe Mayowa, while commenting on the appointment said, "Yakubu is a man of integrity. He is a geologist and very competent. This appointment means that government is serious to check corruption. It is a welcome development."

"If you fix the NNPC, you fix Nigeria. Yakubu represents this. This is in line with the move to fix the NNPC."

What do you think about the sack of top officials in the petroleum sector? Is this what Nigeria needs at this time to revamp the petroleum sector?

‘You Can’t Impregnate A Woman & Desert Her’ – Lagos State Government

It is sit-up time for men in Lagos as the State Government yesterday announced a review of the law enacted to protect pregnant women and their babies.

The State Attorney General, Ade Ipaye said that it is now a criminal offence in Lagos for a man to desert a woman he impregnated.

At the sensitization programme on the 'Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011′ and 'Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2011′, Mr. Ipaye said the law was enacted to protect pregnant women and their babies.

He added that the new law makes it criminal for a man to refuse to contribute to the ante-natal and post-natal expenses of a woman he impregnated.

"Any person who impregnates a woman or girl and fails, refuses or neglects to contribute to maternity related cost from ante-natal or post-natal stages, is guilty of an offence under section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and is liable to face the wrath of the law," Ipaye said.

Ipaye said the old law handed down by the British Colonial Government was outdated, as it mainly reflected the values of the colonial administration.

"The review of this law was necessitated by the fact that some of the laws that existed prior to this time were outdated," he said.

"The review is therefore aimed at reflecting current day realities, as the old Criminal Code Law has become inadequate to address the challenges of contemporary criminality."

Ipaye, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Justice, said the state criminal law was enacted to regulate public order and provide rules on criminal conduct, among other objectives.

He however stressed that the new law has replaced the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State Cap.C17 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003, introduced in Southern Nigeria in 1914.

Wow, this sounds like good news for women in Lagos state. I often hear of men abandoning women after impregnating them, leaving them to cater for themselves and the babies under extreme conditions. This often leads them to some actions like abandoning the babies or maltreating them to spite the fathers.

Hopefully with this law, women would be able to speak out for themselves and ensure that some men live up to their responsibilities.

What do you think? Is this a step in the right direction by the Lagos state government? How far do you think this law would go in helping women who often find themselves in a fix when abandoned by the men who impregnate them?

Is Goldie Mentally Balanced?

I don't know if some of you have noticed, but Goldie talks to herself a lot in the Big Brother House. It's kinda weird! After her fight with Prezzo today, she spent almost an hour talking to herself about the fight.

I thank God for my mind and my heart and the grace God has given me to be able to see certain things. Someone who really cares for you never count how many times they've been nice to you so on that note, you don't really care about me" Goldie said to herself.

And after her diary session with Biggie, Goldie said she wanted to leave the BBA house.

I can't afford this type of thing, I'm going home. Everybody will be disappointed but I can't. Everybody is strange but I'm even stranger" Goldie whispered to herself.

And then she's always crying. I'm hoping this her behaviour in the BBA house is all an act, otherwise it's quite worrisome.

The fatal June 3rd crash was said to have affected their desire to continue working in Nigeria.

The death of Captain Peter Waxton, the pilot who flew the crashed plane, also affected the other expatriates. Captain Waxton was not only the most experienced pilot, he was also the highest paid amongst the pilots of Dana Air.

The co-pilot of the Dana crash Indian Mike Mehandra had a six year old son and a pregnant wife due to deliver in August.

Household of God Pastor Kris Okotie & Stephanie Henshaw Announce Surprise Split

On the 7th and 8th of August 2008, former musician, popular pastor and presidential candidate, Reverend Kris Okotie married Stephanie Henshaw. The wedding was a beautiful celebration of the couple who had both been previously married –

Reverend Kris had been divorced from his first wife for over a decade while Stephanie was a widow. The church which he leads, Household of God, welcomed their leader's new bride and though she did not have a formal role within the church (as a pastor or choir leader as many Nigerian pastors wives take on), Stephanie was well-loved by the congregation.

Therefore, when Pastor Kris announced on Sunday, 23rd of June 2012 that "Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated. You can see she's not in church today. It's due to irreconcilable differences…you should please respect our wishes at this time because there is no going back.", it caused a great deal of confusion and discussion.

No additional details have been released on the specific cause of the split. Regardless of the Reverend Okotie's statement, we hope they can work it out.

UNILAG Students Rejoice as Court Restrains FG from Renaming Institution

It is rejoicing time for students, staff and stakeholders of University of Lagos who were against President Goodluck Jonathan's announcement of the institutions name change to Moshood Abiola University.

Earlier today, a Federal High Court in Lagos granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government from renaming the University of Lagos, a 52-year old school widely known as UNILAG.

Justice Stephen Adah granted the interim injunction sought by students and alumni of the institution.

The defendants in the lawsuit are UNILAG, the University's Governing Council, the UNILAG Senate, office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Assembly.

On May 29th 2012, President Goodluck Jonathan arbitrarily renamed the University after Bashorun M.K.O Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election that was annulled by the military junta led by Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

However in the course of street protests, students and alumni of the university resisted the name change leading to the closure of the university.

The court has adjourned further hearing in the case till July 4.

The news is already creating a buzz on the campus as students are very excited to hear about the court order.

What do you think about this recent turn of events?

Charly Boy slams N1b lawsuit against National Mirror

Charly Boy caused quite a stir on Tuesday, June 18, 2012, when he walked into the Lagos High Court and filed a lawsuit of N1b against the National Mirror newspaper.
According to Charly Boy, he’s suing the daily newspaper because it published a story claiming he said in an interview that he was gay and a member of the secret cult-like group, the Illuminati. The case was filed in by Charly Boy’s lawyer and representative Ope Banwo.
The ‘Area Father’, who was followed and surrounded by bike riders, then held a press conference a few blocks away.
If any publication calls Charly Boy gay, I think it’s a fair comment. He’s in the public domain, people will always speculate. But it’s wrong to out-rightly report that in an interview he actually said so. That’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed’, Charly Boy’s counsel Ope Banwo said.
The lawyer claimed he had written to the daily newspaper demanding an apology to be published in four different dailies, but received no response from them.
It is unfortunate this is happening to me. You all know me, I’m never bothered about any of this news but I’m shocked of this timid, Mungo Parkish way of thinking. I have put tenacity, focus and hardwork in the 35 years of building this brand. I think I deserve more’, Charly Boy told the crowd.
You can’t appreciate the brand if you can’t look past the antics of the brand. You have to have depth. You can think and have your own opinion, but as responsible journalists, we all should know there are rules of the game. I have nothing against people. I have gay people as friends, everybody is my friend as long as you are positive thinking’ he continued.
Banwo said the ‘false story’ had already begun having a negative effect, as companies working with Charly Boy were already considering dropping him from their brands. ‘The position at the MCSN (Music Copyright Society of Nigeria) is already being threatened’, he saidd.
Meanwhile, Charly Boy is giving The Daily Independent, who also published the story, a week to publish an apology.
This will be the second homosexuality lawsuit in recent times, after singer Asa’s N700m court case with News of The People weekly tabloid.

*whispers, but he acts the role nah* (TT drops mic before  getting sued... me no get one billion ooo)

In 2009, my personal computer was compromised, resulting in my personal work to be used in Jay-Z’s book Decoded which was released in 2010’  White claims.
White is suing for copyright infringement and invasion of property.
The book contains various expressions/colours/phrases, which correlates to my work. After contacting or attempting to contact the co-author, I got no reply’, he added.
Authors Dream Hampton and Random House who are co-authors of the book are also named in the hand-written lawsuit.
Neither Jay Z nor his management have made a statement concerning the lawsuit.

Dear TT, "My wife does not want to bear my name"

*My name is Wale. I've been married for the past seven years and my marriage is blessed with two children. But the problem is that my wife has bluntly refused to bear my name. Rather, she fights me whenever I ask her to do the right thing. This has made me lose confidence in our marital relationship to the detriment of the children. Whenever I ask her to state her reason for not wanting to bear my name, she would say what is there in a name! Please, what is there in a name (her words). We got married in church. Your advise will be greatly valued. From Wale, 08050715xxx.

Y'all read the question?? What should Wale do?

Lil Kim Announces New Boyfriend Mr. Papers

Lil Kim Boyfriend Mr. Papers
via Instagram
Lil Kim has been linked to some of the most notoriously popular men in the rap game, past and present– but it looks like she’s keeping her latest love under the radar (as under the radar as Lil Kim can).
When the Queen Bee recently tweeted about her latest love affair, many took the photo as a joke by the sounds of her ‘lol’ echoing through the Twitter verse, but it looks as though she is the one having the last laugh.
Kimmy Blanco and Mr. Papers are looking pretty official these days, and over the weekend the pair was spotted out and about together at hot spot night clubs like Los Angeles’ celeb hangout, The Key Club. Not only were they together, but the lovebirds were seen kissing and canoodling– no he said she said rumors here, these two were caught in the act.
Haven’t heard of Mr. Papers before? Neither have we. All we can come up with is that he either smokes a lot of weed, or he’s got a lot of papers in the bank. He’s tweeted about Kim constantly for a minute now– calling her “babygirl” a majority of the time… but some just aren’t buying it. What do you think, are these two an item?

Meagan Good x Fiancé DeVon Franklin Finally Wed, Share A Kiss

Meagan Good DeVon Franklin Wedding

The night that Meagan Good and her new hubby DeVon Franklin were anxiously awaiting has finally come and gone, and they’re now husband and wife. Everyone had been counting down the days in disbelief for the couple who were both practicing celibacy pre-marriage, and now they are one.
They tied the knot in Malibu at the Triunfo Creek Winery in front of 400 friends and family in an enchanted spanish-mosque type twilight feel wedding where Meagan even shared a detail or two with Oprah– and even a photo of their steamy first kiss.
She kissed and told about her gorgeous lace touched dress with the purple accents. “”I didn’t want girly,” says Good of her dress. “I wanted handsome. It’s got a bit of a masculine feel to it. I wanted something that felt a tad bit rebellious and out of the ordinary. That felt closer to my personality.”
And she of course gave her husband a sweet shout out as well. ”DeVon makes me better, makes my life fuller, and completes my quality of life. He’s truly on my team and I am truly on his. God revealed my heart to him like nobody else.”
Congratulations to this gorgeous couple.

Desperate Housewives hottie Eva Longoria shows no sign of desperation Sunday in Seville.
Cool and confident, the star publicly and proudly kissed her boyfriend of over a year, Eduardo Cruz, while doing some Spanish sight-seeing.
It was rumored that Eduardo, brother of actress Penélope Cruz, and Eva had split in March. However, these rumors have far been suppressed, especially because the couple has recently been so public with their romance.
What's next on the agenda for Eva's Spanish love affair?

Bobby Brown Marries Fiancée Alicia Etheridge in Hawaiian Ceremony

Every little step Bobby Brown took this weekend led him to the altar.
The late Whitney Houston's ex happily swapped vows with fiancée Alicia Etheridge on Monday in a ceremony in Honolulu, Hawaii, surrounded by close friends and relatives.
There was one family member who was a no-show, however...
Alas, Bobbi Kristina, Brown's 19-year-old daughter with Houston, skipped the wedding. Per reports, Bobbi was shooting scenes with boyfriend Nick Gordon in New York for her forthcoming Lifetime reality series, The Houston Chronicles. In any case, by all accounts it was a festive affair, with the 43-year-old Brown's other kids in attendance including 23-year-old Landon, 22-year-old La'Princia, 19-year-old Bobby Jr. and 3-year-old Cassius, the singer's sole child so far with Etheridge.
Bobby Jr. subsequently tweeted a picture on Instagram of the newlyweds posing with children. The bride wore a white strapless gown with accompanying necklace, while the groom opted for a bright red suit, shirt, Adidas and a giant lei.
