Israel’s departure from bondage in Egypt represents the salvation experience of the New Testament church. After the children of Israel left Egypt, God sent the Holy Spirit to them and told them to obey Him and warned them to be careful not to provoke Him because He will not pardon their transgressions. Again, this can be likened to Jesus’ promise, upon His departure, of a Comforter and He warned the people not to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit because they will not be forgiven. The consequence of grieving the Holy Spirit is that God will turn against you.
Believers, just like the Israelites, are given the Holy Spirit for guidance. In God’s design for the fulfillment of His plans and purposes for our lives is the person of the Holy Spirit. So, in all that we do, we must be conscious of the Holy Spirit, taking extra care not to provoke or grieve Him. God’s plans for us are far too supernaturally sophisticated and it’s only the Holy Spirit, as part of the God-Head, Who can decipher, decode and implement them for us. When we read the bible, it’s the Holy Spirit Who makes sense of it for us, He helps us pray and puts the power of God at our disposal.
The Holy Spirit knows us better than we know ourselves. We must never live our lives without Him. Cultivate an intimate relationship with Him and maintain a 24/7 communication channel with Him because since He is not a human being, He can hear our thoughts. Allow Him to actively run your life and life will no longer be a matter of luck or chance.
