Ten celebrities, selected from the entertainment industry are currently on camp as you read, participating in the first-ever edition of the Gulder Ultimate Search Celebrity Showdown.

The contestants Darey, Funke Akindele, Emeka Ike, Muma Gee, Obesere, Daddy Showkey, Princess, Bob Manuel- Udokwu, Chioma Chukwuka and Weird MC were unveiled in Lagos last Friday at an exclusive event held at The Oriental Hotel, in Lagos.

The show, which is expected to go on air later this month, is a specially designed fun edition of the popular Gulder Ultimate Search series, where young men and women head to the jungle to search for an ‘ultimate treasure.’

And although it‘s still uncertain whether the celebs are expected to face similar tasks and gruelling activities, sources told e-Punch three of the final contestants pulled out at the last minute, leaving the organisers to make impromptu replacements. Ex-MBGN Omowunmi Akinnifesi, Rita Dominic and Ramsey Nouah all asked to be excused few days to the unveil; leaving many to speculate that they‘re either scared of the jungle or, uncomfortable with the idea of having colleague Genevieve Nnaji as host/instructor.

Those who were privy to the original list were shocked to discover during the event, that three of the most colourful contestants had pulled out.

But, judging from the parade of the 10 celebrities at the event, it didn‘t look like Nouah, Dominic and Akinnifesi will be missed. The celebs bragged and boasted, showing the audience how they‘ll outplay one another; with Bob Manuela, openly admitting the only person he feared on the team was Weird MC. They all understood it was fun and make-believe; and they put their best foot forward- even the unusually shy Weird MC who did a quick freestyle to warn the remaining nine contestants that she‘ll beat them all to the prize.

They moved into camp (La Campagne Tropicana) on Monday, with Nnaji as instructor, and repeated warnings that there‘ll be no five-star treatment, mobile phones, internet or retinue of assistants at their beck-and-call for almost two weeks.

The producers say the reality show is an ‘original Nigerian adventure programme of international standard‘.

The show will be aired on NTA, Silverbird, Soundcity Premium, Africa Magic and AIT.
