Beyonce Opens Cosmetology School in Brooklyn

Beyonce
Beyonce has taken on a new, beautiful cause! The singer and her mother, Tina Knowles, launched The the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at Brooklyn’s Pheonix House last Friday.
The school features a seven-month training program that will prepare women coming out of drug and alcohol rehab for the state cosmetology licensure exam. Bey and Mama Tina pledged $100,000 in yearly funding, and L’OrĂ©al–where Bey’s a spokeswoman– is going to provide the supplies.
“I felt like they needed something that was geared towards women — Something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House,” Beyonce said about her decision to fund a beauty school. Of course growing up with a mother who owned a salon also had some influence:   “I saw that a salon was a place for women to socialize, share stories, cry, laugh and get advice,” Beyonce continued, “Most importantly, I saw the joy it brought my mother, knowing she was a part of their transformation.”
