Jesus is quoted, several times in the bible, using the words - Forgiveness and Healing - interchangeably. It implies that forgiveness brings healing. When we forgive, God will make it up to us and heal us. In our relationships, especially marriage, we need to forgive our spouses constantly; by so doing, we secure our relationship. Let us learn the art of communicating - frank conversations, not bottling up hurt but opening up and confronting issues, in love. This gives the other party the opportunity to apologize; and even if the apology never comes, please forgive all the same. Practice advance forgiveness!
We need the grace of God, sometimes, to forgive, because some offences are grave; but when we consider the enormity of the offences God has forgiven us, and then we will not feel any reluctance forgiving the offences of others which are minute in comparison to ours. The knowledge that our relationship with God is hindered when we don't forgive should drive us to forgive quickly. So, as we love and forgive, we build rock solid lives that will stand the trials and test of time.
Forgiveness is letting go of the desire to revenge. Living without forgiving the people who offend us keeps us, and the offender, in bondage. As Christians, God's nature has been birthed in us, therefore, we do not owe anybody anything but love. Offences will come, no doubt, but we must remember the depth of the love God has for us, as imperfect as we are, and let those who offend us off the hook.
