Spiritual Nuggets: PRAYER FOR OUR NATION by Sam Adeyemi

Jeremiah 4:19-22
Prophet Jeremiah was considered to be a prophet of doom, a harbinger of bad news. In the scripture above, Jeremiah was lamenting over the impending destruction of Israel because of their wrong doings; in this instance, he was not speaking based on his physical senses, the things he said were spiritual. Interestingly, the prophet’s predictions capture the picture of present day Nigeria – wickedness, corruption, oppression, unspeakable moral decadence, and now terrorism. These points to the fact that Nigerians have removed the God factor from the equation.
Our blatant disregard for God is inviting His wrath and judgement, but just like in Genesis 8 when God was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, He told His friend Abraham, and this gave him the opportunity to intercede on their behalf; the time has come, as a matter of urgency, for us Christians to stand in the gap for Nigeria. The main problem Nigeria faces is that she is not being run on godly principles. The bible teaches in Proverbs 29:18 that where there is no vision, the people perish; it’s a principle and principles are no respecter of persons, if you satisfy their conditions, they’ll work for you, Christian, muslim or pagan, if you don’t, they work against you. There is no such thing as the Nigerian vision therefore Nigerians languish; Nigeria has got to be run on godly principles, the national value system should be re-engineered to salvage our reputation globally.
Sadly, this malaise has crept into the churches, what with gimmicks and scams coming from the pulpits!! Something has to be done about this, and quickly too! The responsibility is ours to intercede for our dear mother land. The Holy Spirit says our situation is not beyond redemption, so let us pray.
PRAYER POINTS
· Lord, rid my life of anything that resembles the Nigerian problem. 2 CORINTHIANS 10:6
· Lord, use me to solve the Nigerian problem. Give me the courage and boldness I will need to fight for Nigeria.
· Lord, instill in me the right values so I can be a role model to the next generation.
LORD HEAR OUR PRAYERS, AMEN.
