Message of the Week: Be Mission Minded

Sam Adeyemi
Your mission on earth is your life assignment and purpose. It is the reason why you were created by God. Being mission minded is focusing squarely on the purpose God put you on earth to fulfil. In fulfilling earthly assignments, we will encounter distractions.
Distractions come in the form of material needs. We live in a material world, therefore, we need worldly materials for sustenance - basic needs like food, shelter and clothing; but when we allow these needs grow out of proportion, we attach unnecessary importance to them and then they become distractions because we shift our focus from our mission to acquiring wealth for our basic needs to be met.
When you are mission minded, you will strive to exterminate distractions. There is a part of man that can never be satisfied with material resources. Jesus, during His days on earth, sought to deliver people from the deception that man's primary needs are material. He said we should seek first the kingdom, the government and God's system of doing things, and then all the other things we need will be added to our lives.
When we fail to do this and attempt to do things our own way, we are prone to deception. Unfortunately, there is the tendency to overly value material resources because of the amount of lack and deprivation around. Deprivation can colour one's perspective. Consecrating our lives to God is the solution to breaking free from setting our minds only on acquiring material possessions. God has invested gifts and talents in the lives of every person.
Without God's direction, we will never realise our callings; so, we must co-operate with Him to fulfil purpose. The purpose of our lives is much more than mere survival. God seeks to install capacity to solve problems for others in our lives through the Holy Spirit, and with this capacity you cannot lack.
Not until we make sacrifices to help people, will we achieve true success. We need to commit to laying down our lives, becoming the light and salt of the earth. True success cannot be achieved by acquiring material possessions but by sacrifice.
