Excellence makes the Difference by Nike Adeyemi

Psalm 8 verse 1

God is an excellent God and He is the author of excellence. Some words are synonymous with individuals and organisations; what word comes to mind when people remember you and your organisation? The term Christian means “the called out ones” or “followers of Christ”. God expects us as Christians to live up to the name He has given us. As Christians, we are to live by higher standards of service and quality of life because people in the world are tired of shabby standards (Mark 11: 12-17). We must deliver care to people from the standpoint of love; always remembering that we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. Our fruits set us apart from the world. Always live up to the name you call yourself or your organisation.

Excellence is when you have the love of God or compassion in mind for the person you are serving. If you have love for your fellow man, you will treat others well and you will obey rules. However, without the love of God, all these acts become religious and you will find it difficult to continue after some time. When you love righteousness (right living) above lawlessness and wickedness, you will find that you are promoted in life (Hebrews 1: 8-9). True humility is the key and you have the Holy Spirit to help you. You can be a breath of fresh air by doing good acts.

In exploring what it takes to make a difference, the Bible is our manual for excellence. Therefore, you need to learn from the Bible and pattern your life after its teachings. No matter what your current status is in life (student, child, spouse, employee or employer), you should always deliver excellent service wherever you find yourself. You are ordained to be sent to the nations, either directly or indirectly (Jeremiah 1:5). It is also required that you are found faithful (Colossians 3:22-25 TM; 1 Corinthians 4:2). People need to know that you are a person of your word, that is, a person who has integrity. Do not pretend to be someone you are not. Clarify your ambition and your motives and direct your quest to making a difference with your life. Pray for the wisdom to stay focused without being discouraged. Act with courage because soundness of mind and courage produce great impact bearing in mind that fear will limit your courage (2 Timothy 1:7). Take courage and begin to fulfil the dreams in your heart. Daniel was distinguished and promoted because an excellent spirit was in him. He always did things right – both in the secular and in the spiritual realms (Daniel 6:3-4; Matthew 12:35 AMP). God’s love is our identity and we cannot do anything lasting outside of His love. Whatever your endeavour, delivering excellence will heal you; just as being shoddy will bring death to any endeavour (Proverbs 18:9 TM & AMP). Love is our identity and when we allow this to be firmly entrenched in our hearts, there will be no limit to our rising because the same God, who is Love, is the same God who is Excellence.
