Beginning in the final quarter of the year, the Nigezie bouquet of music programming will no longer be on the HiTV cable platform.
NET sources revealed that the relationship between the two companies had broken down completely and there were no signs of reconciliation. Furthermore, industry insiders say HiTV has already commissioned another outfit to conceptualise and produce it’s music content moving forward.
HiTV is owned and run by Toyin Subair while Nigezie is owned and run by Femi Aderibigbe a.k.a. Kwame. Our sources say both men, who once enjoyed a robust relationship, are no longer on talking terms and may be heading to court soon.
A Nigezie insider, who pleaded anonymity for fear of reprisal, told NET that the channel ‘will press for charges and use all legal means to get all the backlog of money HiTV is owing us. The company is also working on rolling out a set of new channels, while a big-budget purpose-built production studio is nearing completion.’
The Nigezie-HiTV controversy may come as a shock to many but those on the inside insist they’re not too surprised. ‘I saw it coming’ our source lets on, claiming the relationship was built more on trust, friendship and passion, instead of documents, deliverables and strict compliance.
This development is another blow for HiTV who recently lost the rights to air English Premier League matches in Nigeria for the next three years.
