Mark McNairy has long been known for mixing elements of streetwear with more traditional men's tailoring, and from this first look at his fall/winter 2013 collection, it's clear that the man they affectionately call "McNasty" isn't breaking from that mold quite yet. His latest effort lifts tropes from the Americana and Heritage movements and gleefully turns them on their heads. Sometimes, it's obvious. To wit, a three-tone, peak lapel sport coat that feels like a modern, tailored take on the classic prepster "fun" shirt. Other times, like when he places the subtly profane initials "B.S." at the center of the crest on a collegiate blazer... well, that's still pretty obvious, isn't it? (Though you might be able to fool the folks at the country club once or twice.) It's never totally off-the-wall, though.
Because McNairy isn't trying to totally reinvent the conventions of stateside style — he's just having a little fun at their expense. Will this dismay some traditionalists? Almost certainly. But they'd do well to remember: There are few things more American than a maverick... I'd like to see some of our Naija dudes try to pull off this fashion statement in the Lagos heat though... :p :p .... cos we get many olodo copy copy... hehehe
