YOUR BODY AND YOUR HEALTH by Pastor Sam Adeyemi

Hebrews 10:5-7
God designed the human body as earth-suits for our spirits for the period we are on earth. Every human body is specifically adapted to suit God’s purpose and destiny for each person, so it’s our responsibility to take very good care of the bodies given to us. The starting point is accepting our bodies- height, nose, teeth, eyes, etc. – the way God designed it. The prophecy in our opening scriptural reference tells us that Jesus’ body was specifically given to Him for the fulfillment of His purpose. In Psalm 139:14, the Psalmist says,’ I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works’. Everything God has given you is perfect for your destiny; do not desire to be like anybody else.
God has placed the responsibility on us to choose whom we yield our bodies to; God needs our bodies to spread His Kingdom on earth, the devil does too, so we must be very careful who, what and where we yield our bodies because whoever we yield our bodies to, controls our lives. Romans 6:12 declares, ‘therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies that you should obey it in its lust. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.’ We are created to serve God, our bodies and everything we own; therefore, we must present our bodies for God to use for His Kingdom. In Romans 12:1 the Bible admonishes us to ‘present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God’. Good health comes from serving God; God ensures that we enjoy optimum health when we serve Him wholly, He surely will not sustain a body used to fulfill the devil’s agenda.
The Bible says in Exodus 23:25, ‘so you shall serve the Lord your God and He will bless your bread and water.’ Bread and water build and maintain the body; pay attention to what you eat, understand what your body needs. The key is moderation; watch the quality and quantity of food you need, bear in mind that the older you get, the greater the need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate and increase the protein you ingest. Timing is also important; avoid late night meals, or else your body will be digesting food when it needs to be resting. Doctors also recommend that we take vitamin supplements, because our food hardly supplies all the nutrients our bodies need. In addition, stay as close to nature as possible, processed food have lots of chemicals which are bad the body, water is the most important ingredient of our bodies. It carries nutrients to other parts of the body, cleans our body and washes out toxins and waste, we are to drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Finally, let us maintain basic hygiene and exercise, and keep God’s promise in Romans 8:11 close to our hearts.
