R2BEES Pull Out Of Concert In Ghana over $200,000 P-Square Payment Row!

Saturday night in Ghana P-Square headlined  the Top of the World Celebration concert at the Independence Square, Accra, Ghana, also billed to perform were Ghanaian acts R2BEES and rapper Sarkodie. However a day before the curtains went up on the show R2BEES announced they were pulling out of the show.

Although it wasn’t given as the reason in their official  statement it later came to light that the reason behind their decision is because P-Square were paid $200,000 while R2BEES & Sarkodie were paid a paltry $5,000.
According to Peace FM Online who reported before the concert that “Sarkodie and Dynamic duo R2Bees who have been billed to Perform alongside Pan Africa group P-Square; for the Malta Guinness sponsored Top of the World Celebration Concert have threatened to pull out of the show if organizers do not pay them $20, 000 and $10, 000 respectively”
In light of the breakdown in negotiations for a higher pay R2bEES made good on their threat by cancelling their appearance at the concert. Sarkodie still performed for$5,000.
I’m not saying $5,000 is acceptable but let’s keep it real here, P-Square are astronomically HUGE across the continent, R2BEES (stars in their own right in Ghana) are nowhere near P-Square level. And while these guys likely perform with a backing CD, P-Square go hard with an 11-member  band plus 4 dancers, all these people have to get paid!
But bravo to them for standing up for what they beleive in.
