Kidnappers make contact with Mikel's family

The abductors of Mr Michael Obi, father of Nigerian international, John Mikel Obi have made contact with the family.

The retired civil servant and owner of a transport business in Jos, the Plateau state capital was kidnapped on Friday and has been declared missing since then.

It's been gathered that the abductors who called the family twice, claimed that the footballer's dad has been moved to Lagos.

A family source who spoke to sports news agency, kick off Nigeria said the abductors called Mikel's mother and told her not to bother looking for her husband in Jos, stating that the Mr Michael Obi has been taken out of Jos to Lagos.

To drive their point home, the kidnappers called a second time, giving the family the location of the car which Mr Obi was driving when he was kidnapped.
Mikel Obi's eldest brother, Tony confirmed to newsmen that the car was found in Jos, but declined to say where.

"Yes, we have found the car," Tony Obi told KickOffNigeria.com. "I can't say anything more for now."

Tony recovered the car in the company of two of his in-laws.

Meanwhile, the Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel will be allowed to miss the club's game with West Brom this weekend, following his father's kidnapping.

Mikel played for Chelsea against Stoke despite being 'devastated' by news of his father's kidnapping.

Chelsea released a statement that it was 'very concerned' at the news of the abduction, before adding that it will be giving Mikel its 'full support', which will give him the option to take time out from his first-team duties.

Mikel's agent, John Ola Shittu, said that his client is 'devastated' to hear of his father's disappearance, and he was informed of the situation shortly before taking part in Chelsea's game against Stoke on Sunday.

Everton defender and Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo endured a similar nightmare in July 2008, when his brother, Nornu was kidnapped back in his Port Harcourt base. He was, however, released unharmed by his captors 12 days later.
