MATHEW KNOWLES ON SPLIT FROM BEYONCE: Business Is Business & Family Is Family
Mathew speaks on the "mutual" decision when you read on....
He's been her manager for almost two decades, but it looks like the Knowles camp is ready for a change up. Yesterday's semi-shocking announcementcame from Beyonce and her publicist that the uber successful father-daughter duo will end their manager relationship.
Now Papa Knowles gives his side, saying business and family are separate. And, while he will continue his projects with Destiny's Child and his gospel acts, he's proud of all the great things he and his daughter have accomplished. His statement in full:
The decision for Beyoncé and Music World Entertainment to part was mutual. We did great things together, and I know that she will continue to conquer new territories in music and entertainment. Currently, I am very focused on the tremendous investment that our record label has made in the gospel/inspirational genre of music and on our supremely talented roster of artists, including Trin-i-tee 5:7, Brian Courtney Wilson, Juanita Bynum, Micah Stampley, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Pastor Rudy and others.
Music World will continue its partnership with Sony with Destiny's Child and UK female group From Above, as well as management. We will also continue to develop the Music World family of labels: Music World Country/Compadre, Music World Kids and Music World Music. In Music World's repositioning it will not continue its label/management role with Columbia/Sony artist Tiffany Evans.
Business is business and family is family. I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success.
Beyonce's upcoming album run will be an interesting one...

SPONSORS ‘GRAB’ FELA!ON THE BROADWAY MUSICAL SHOW IN NIGERIA
Broad chested corporate bodies like Lagos State, Hi-TV, M-NET, Chicken Republic, Skye Bank, GDN, Sterling Bank, M-net, among other top brands have thrown in huge supports for FELA! an original Broadway musical produced by Shawn ‘JayZ’ Carter and Will Smith and directed by Bill T. Jones, FELA! is set to be performed at the New Expo Center of the Eko Hotels and suites, Lagos, Nigeria from the 20th to the 25th of April, 2011.Telling the true story of the legendary Nigerian musician whose soulful Afrobeat rhythms and cutting lyrics ignited the spirit of empowerment and cultural awareness in a generation, the cast of the Fela musical are overjoyed and excited at this opportunity to bring FELA! to Nigeria.
Described by the Times Out New York as more than a musical and an ecstatic phenomenon, FELA! opened and triumphed at London’s Royal National Theater for a three-month sold-out run. That production was nominated for three Olivier Awards, London theatre’s highest honor, including Best Musical, Best Actor (Sahr Ngaujah) and Best Choreography (Bill T. Jones).
A production of this standard brought to Nigeria by Broken Shackles Limited is sure to affect the theatre culture in Nigeria positively by broadening the scope of theater practitioners in the generality. The success of FELA! internationally prompted the need to bring the Broadway show to the birth place of the Afrobeat Legend- Fela Anikulapo Kuti on which the Broadway musical is based.
According to
The Broadway League , Broadway shows sold approximately $1.037 billion worth of tickets in calendar year 2010, compared to $1.004 billion for 2009, but it is being highly speculated that because FELA! Is Nigerian, its number of viewers is set to beat the international Broadway records. A proof of this is the heavy traffic at FELA! ticket centers in Lagos.

England-based Nigerian forward Victor Moses yet to be cleared by FIFA to play for Nigeria
Victor Moses watching from the bench as Nigeria defeated Ethiopia 4-0 during the African Cup of Nations qualifying match in Abuja on March 27, 2011. |
Nigeria announced on March 25, 2011 that England-based Nigerian forward Victor Moses, who plays for Wigan Athletic, will not play in March 27's Nations Cup qualifying match against Ethiopia in Abuja as FIFA are yet to approve his application to switch allegiance to Nigeria after he featured for England at Under-17 and Under-21 levels. But Nigeria plan to line him up for today's friendly match against Kenya. I hear he's a very good player, so watch out for him!
BTW, Victor's parents (who were Christian missionaries) were killed in Kaduna during one of those Muslim/Christian clashes in 2002 when Victor was just 11 years old. He was relocated to the UK by other family members immediately after his parents death.
Yeka Onka Wins First Ever Nigerian Idol!
After several months of thorough training, breath taking performances and tear-shedding scenarios, the first ever Nigerian Idol TV reality show has come to an end. The 26-year-old Onyeka Gilbert popularly known as Yeka Onka on Sunday March 27, 2011 has been announced as the winner of Nigerian Idol 2011.
The grand finale was nothing but a glorious show with laudable performances, fantastic renditions, emotional moments, beautiful costumes plus a thousand other things. An event of such will sink into the minds of the contestants, judges, guests and viewers for a while.
The main event started with the 13 finalists gracefully rendering the Nigerian National Anthem. The judges Jeffery Daniels, Yinka Davies and Audu Maikori were as usual seated and ready to watch the last two contestants Yeka Onka and Naomi Mac perform one last time as one of them would be declared winner of the show.
Hosts Anis and Misi, looking stunning as always set the ball rolling; the other 11 evicted contestants were called upon for one last time to perform a Black Eyed Peas single, the smash hit ‘I got a feeling’.
Anis then called on the R&B star Banky W, the first of three guest performers of the evening on the stage. Banky thrilled the crowd with his popular hit ‘Strong ting’ but it was Timi Dakolo, winner of the West African Idol 2007 that stole the night with a standing ovation. Fast rising R&B singer Praiz also wowed the crowd with a ballad. The dazzling Tiwa Savage and buzzing Retta were among the other acts who performed at the grand finale pre show.
One of the highlights of the evening was when Yeka and Naomi got on stage to render the Christie Essien Igbokwe ‘Seun rere’ song. Little did anybody know that the legendary singer would join the two girls on stage! Tears filled the eyes of many as they swayed side to side singing along.
For a final treat, Yeka and Naomi rendered the same songs they had performed at their first ever auditions. Yeka went first with Whitney Houston’s ‘I will always love you’ while Naomi followed with Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal the world’.
The time finally came for the winner to be declared. Steve Evans, C.E.O Etisalat Nigeria then pronounced Yeka Onka the winner of the reality TV Show. The announcement came as a surprise to some who thought Naomi would be the winner while others celebrated joyfully as Yeka fell to her knees in the euphoria.
‘I am really excited for this, it took me a while to get to this point, I was rejected in Enugu and Abuja, before I came down to Lagos and then I got the golden ticket. I loved the experience, all through the six months, And now here I am walking away with the grand prize’, an ecstatic Yeka said.
‘I just want to say that Naomi too deserved to win this competition, she’s my friend and I love her’, she further expressed. She also went ahead to thank the judges most especially Audu Maikori, stating in her bid to please them; she had become better at her singng.
She then went on to perform ‘Champion’, the Nigerian Idol theme song produced by Jesse Jagz.
Yeka, a former beauty queen in Abia State, had been to two other auditioning zones, Calabar, Enugu before she was eventually picked in Lagos. Emerging as winner, she now goes home with 7.5Million naira courtesy, a brand new car and a Sony entertainment TV center.
Naomi, the 1st runner up, walks away with N1.5M cash prize, a Blackberry phone, iPad, iPod, Easy Card, Standing Fridge, PS3 and other goodies.
‘Here’s a toast to Onyeka who beat all the odds by becoming the first Nigerian Idol, she thoroughly deserves her victory and we should all applaud her and support her’, Rotimi Pedro MD of Optima Media Group, owners of the Nigerian Idol franchise implored.
After a successful debut, producers of the TV show are already working on the follow up season as audition forms become available on the official website www.nigerianidol.com at midnight on March 27, 2011.
Pandemonium At City People Awards As Fire Destroys Venue
A fire outbreak has occurred at The Balmoral premises located on Oregun road, Ikeja where the City People Awards was being held.
According to our sources, the fire started at about 4:05pm shortly after the event kicked off. A caterer who was trying to light the liquid-spirit used to heat the food that was to be served at the event mistakenly lit her dress on fire.
She hurriedly removed the skirt throwing it into the air, but it got in contact with the canopy, which served as an overhead covering at the premises. Efforts to quench the fire with an extinguisher proved abortive as the extinguisher’s gas only made matters worse as it accelerated the fire outbreak.
Celebrities and guests scampered all around as they rushed towards the nearest exit, which was difficult to see as the whole premises was filled with smoke.
Cars that were parked inside the premises were abandoned by their owners as they ran for their lives but rescuers managed to break into the cars by smashing the side glasses and wheeling them out to safety. By the time the Fire Service men arrived, it was too late to salvage anything but they were able to stop the fire from extending to the next hall, we gathered.
We learnt that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, who had just arrived at the scene when the fire started, upon seeing the developing crisis made a u-turn and left the area immediately.
Management of The Balmoral and City People declined to any media comments
We also gathered that it was only the caterer and a Lagos State Television (LTV) staff that sustained injuries. Property worth 50 million naira was lost in the newly renovated hall.

Elsewhere In The World: Wyclef Shot In Haiti On The Night Before Country’s Run-Off Election
Hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean was recovering Sunday after he was shot in the hand, his publicist said.
Spokeswoman Cindy Tanenbaum said Jean, who was in Haiti, was shot in Port-au-Prince on Saturday — on the eve of the country's presidential runoff vote.
The wound was superficial, she said.
The singer was taken to a hospital, treated and released.
"He is doing well," Tanenbaum said.
Haitians are choosing between a former first lady and a popular musician Sunday in the pivotal presidential runoff vote for a nation still recovering from a devastating earthquake and political turmoil.
Former law professor and first lady Mirlande Manigat faces singer Michel Martelly in the second round of presidential elections.
Final results of the runoff will be released on April 16, according to officials.
Jean, who was born in Haiti, shot to fame in the mid-1990s as a member of the Fugees, a U.S.-based hip-hop and reggae group. He now performs as a solo artist.
He has been an outspoken proponent of Haiti through his Yele Haiti Foundation and was one of the first celebrities to offer aid after the earthquake.
In September, he officially ended his bid to be president of Haiti a month after election officials ruled that he was ineligible to run.
Jean previously vowed to fight the Haitian electoral council's ruling that he was not a resident of the country.
As much as we kinda wanna laugh at "shot in the hand," we hope this isn't a foreshadowing of the climate in Haiti today.
Update: Wyclef was apparently getting out his car when he heard gunfire. He says he then noticed blood on his shirt and shoes, but had no clue where the shots came from or if they were aimed at him.
Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond tells AllHipHop.com he thinks "it is clear that enemies of progressive change in Haiti are behind the shooting of Wyclef -those that don't want to accept that a monumental change is inevitable for the betterment of the Haitian people."

Sunday with Joyce Meyer: Grasp Every Chance
You can meet with God while lying in bed. You don't have to be in a private room, with the door closed, bowed down on your knees to meet God. You can meet Him in the shower, while driving to work, or when stuck in a traffic jam.
I am not suggesting that you shouldn't set apart time for God. But you should also take advantage of any time you do have that you could be talking and listening to the Lord. Don't wait to talk to Him until you have a full hour to spend with Him. Grasp every minute you can find to open your ears to His voice. Take advantage of the idle moments already available to you and spend them with God.

Gospel Great Kirk Franklin and Wife Tammy Franklin Discuss Kirk's Porn Addiction
Kirk Franklin told Lynn Norment, reporter for Ebony Magazine how he felt rejected as a young teenager. " [My Mother] didn't want me, she wanted an abortion." Kirk continued to say, "It's just amazing the things that can happen to a boy when he doesn't get the affirmation and the love he needs from his mother and father. And I never got that." He continued to talk about how he turned to promiscuity and his "little stash of magazines" He also shockingly told Norment that he became sexual at the age of 9 or 10.
Even after marriage to the very lovely Tammy Franklin, Kirk continued to watch pornography and had "unrealistic sexual expectations" for her. Once Kirk told Tammy that he was addicted her response was surprising. She told Norment, "For him to tell me, to trust me, it brought us closer." She continues to say about her marriage to Kirk, "It's like as the years progress and you go through trials and you go through what we went through, and other things, whether it involves children or heratache...I love this man today more then the day that we stood before our parents and God, it's just amazing."
Many people have come up to Kirk Franklin and told him that he saved them when he was so open about himself and his problems. Many people, like myself, no longer condemn themselves for their mistakes, when someone who seems to be so close to God can still struggle with problems.
Kirk says, "There is so much fakery; I saw so many false faces growing up in the church. I didn't want to be a false face."
Kirk and Tammy Franklin have four children and been married for 10 years.

Will Smith Donates 30 Laptops After Theft at Philly School
According to NBC Philadelphia, the equipment stolen was worth $80,000 and included 58 laptops, two desktops and an LCD projector. Ironically the burglary came just as the school was celebrating its 100th anniversary. Surveillance video revealed three people wearing masks and gloves running through the school's hallways on the day of the burglary. The suspects have since been apprehended and charged with the crime. Police were able to recover only half of the stolen property, when Smith and his friend, Mack stepped in giving laptops and a desktop computer to the school.
Known for his philanthropy, Smith was honored at the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Annual Tribute Dinner in 2009. "Will often gets honored for the great talent he is, and it's just fantastic to see him being honored for the great man that he is," his wife Jada said during the event.

Nicki Minaj Likely to Head to U.S. Edition of 'X Factor'
According to Page Six, the rapper met with Simon Cowell in Los Angeles several weeks ago to speak about her role in the TV program, set to appear on Fox.
"Nicki has a large following and she fits well with the ethos of the show, which plans to usher in a new generation of musical talent," a source told Page Six. "'X Factor' is aiming for a younger audience. Those aged 12 and over can audition, and [the English version has] launched successful artists from other genres of music than pop."
Cowell is rumored to have taken an interest in the rainbow-colored wig-wearing performer because of her unique character. "Simon thinks Nicki is fantastic," the source revealed. "She's sassy, she looks great and she has bags of personality."
Though the two have met, no deal has been finalized regarding Minaj's appearance on 'The X Factor.' Ever the workhorse, the Young Money affiliate is currently keeping busy on the road with Lil Wayne as part of the 'I Am Music II' tour, which kicked off in Providence, R.I., earlier this week.
Besides Nicki Minaj, former Def Jam CEO and Chairman L.A. Reid made headlines this week regarding his involvement with 'The X Factor' as well. Reid announced his resignation from the major record label and is reportedly taking a judging post on Simon Cowell's show this fall.

‘Alfred’ from ‘Batman’ Movies — Dead at 94
Michael Gough, who has appeared in more than 150 films over his 65-year career, had been sick for the past year, his agent told the BBC. He was surrounded by family at his home when he died. No cause was released.
"We've lost a very treasured and beloved friend and somebody who made a magnificent contribution to the world of theater and films," the agent told BBC.
Gough was one of only two actors to star in Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney. (ScreenRant.com points out Pat Hingle is the other.)
In the 1960s, he appeared in TV series The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Saint. Over the next two decades, he was also starred in The Avengers, The Champions and Colditz.
He also starred in Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow and voiced characters in Corpse Bride and Alice in Wonderland.
"Tim Burton was a huge fan of Mick from the Hammer Horror films of the 60s, so he tried very hard to include him in everything he did," his agent told the BBC.
He is survived by his fourth wife, Henrietta, and children Emma, Simon and Jasper.

Jennifer Hudson Remembers Slain Family: “I Have The Greatest Sadness To Be Sad Over”
Jennifer Hudson broke down in tears tonight as she recalled her murdered mother as 'the perfect mother in every way'. Hudson wept as she told how her faith helped her get through the murders of her mother Darnell, brother Jason and seven-year-old nephew Julian. 'No matter what, He's always there – and that's the thing that keeps me,' she told ABC TV's 20/20. 'And I feel that that's the greatest gift.
'I could not and would not be sitting her talking to you right now, this happy, talking to you without Him. It's my joy.' Hudson's family were brutally murdered in 2008. Her brother-in-law William Balfour was charged with the crime. But Hudson also spoke lovingly of her joy in her 19-month-old baby son David Jr, who she says weighs himself every morning just like his mother does, and also her music which she calls her 'home'. 'I have the greatest sadness to be sad over – but then look at the joy I have, too,' she smiled.

US/UN Military Action In Libya Could Start As Early As Sunday
The U.N. Security Council resolution was approved late Thursday with the backing of the United States, France and Britain, hours after Gadhafi vowed to launch a final assault and crush the nearly 5-week-old rebellion against him.
President Barack Obama telephoned the leaders of Britain and France after the vote, the White House said. U.S. officials speaking after a closed-door briefing in Congress said the attempt to ground Gadhafi's air force could begin by Sunday or Monday with the use of jet fighters, bombers and surveillance aircraft.
The British Cabinet held an emergency meeting as British planes were expected to take part in the international military action. NATO envoys in Brussels also were considering next steps.
Military experts cautioned that the consequences of such action are unpredictable. The former head of the British army, Richard Dannatt, said it was crucial to proceed cautiously "so we don't get into the kind of situation that we got into in Iraq by not having a Plan B for the morning after."
But the Western powers faced pressure to act urgently after weeks spent deliberation over what to do about Gadhafi as his regime gained momentum.
Gadhafi, calling in to Libyan television on Thursday, said his forces would "rescue" the people of Benghazi, the eastern Mediterranean port city that has become the de-facto rebel capital and staging ground. For those who resist, Gadhafi said, there would be "no mercy or compassion."
"This is your happy day, we will destroy your enemies," he said, warning the people of Benghazi not to stand alongside the opposition. "Prepare for this moment to get rid of the traitors. Tomorrow we will show the world, to see if the city is one of traitors or heroes."
Gadhafi also pledged to respond harshly to U.N.-sponsored attacks in an interview with Portuguese television broadcast just before the vote. "If the world is crazy," he said, "we will be crazy, too."
That should end any doubt you might have as to whether or not this dude is a nutjob.
Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim struck a more conciliatory tone, offering to negotiate a cease-fire with the rebels. He welcomed the Security Council's concern for the people of Libya but called on the world not to allow them to receive weapons. "If any countries do that, they will be inviting Libyans to kill each other," he said.
The civil unrest in Libya started a little over a month ago. And the death toll is somewhere between 150 or over 1,000 people, depending on whether you ask Gadhafi or the rebels.

Nicki Minaj Lead Role In “Charge It To The Game”?
The evolution of Nicki Minaj continues as she exploits her talents as a singer and explores her passion as a writer. Nicki is considering several acting roles which includes playing the lead character of Erica Payne in the film adaptation of the six time Essence's bestselling novel "Charge it to the Game" by Michele A. Fletcher.
While Fletcher does have a past history with Lil Kim growing up in Brooklyn and running with Junior Mafia, she feels either lady could bring a new kind of intensity to the street-lit character very much like Denzel Washington in Training Day. Other actresses on Fletcher's wish list include Eve, Keri Hilson, Tasha Smith and Evelyn Lozada.
Hmmm, we're not sure about Evelyn Lozada and Keri Hilson's acting skills, but Nicki Minaj would be a good look.

Dokubo, a passenger in the Lagos-bound aircraft scheduled to take off by 7.30 am, was said to have raised alarm after receiving a text message on her mobile phone allegedly informing her of a bomb inside one of the compartments of the aircraft just as the passengers were settling on their seats.

The plane was later searched and nothing was found according to one of the security officers at the airport..

NET gathered that Bangbala through his company (Happy Boys) opted to buy the album off 2face for an undisclosed sum with the hope of securing ROI (return on invested capital), especially because of the R. Kelly duet. However, just like many critics of the duet, the marketer claims he was disappointed by the so-called 'R. Kelly duet' – claiming it is questionable.
Bangbala was not satisfied with the finished product claiming Idibia did not do what he portrayed while the negotiation was on…
According to a report, having paid 2face's Hypertek Records the agreed sum, the marketer was compelled to accept the album, but on the condition that 2face would produce another album to compensate for the loss.
Idibia went on to release his lastest album 'The Unstoppable Int'l Edition' on his own label, working with other distributors. Sources say Happy Boys decided to let sleeping dogs lie; letting it all go by counting their losses and moving on.
However, we scooped that 2face's new endorsement deal with telecommunications company Airtel, has energized the marketer's commitment to recover his loss on the 'Unstoppable' deal.
He has reportedly threatened to spill out to the public and the Airtel management the 'A-Z' of how his unprofitable deal with 2face transpired unless Mr. Idibia refunds his money.
Speaking to NET on the case, which is already in court, 2face's management (Now Muzik) confirmed the ongoing feud noting his camp has been served court papers.
'The court papers have been served to Hypertek and do not contain any hit point. What they asked him for was that they did not know how the album was released. They said they were not party to the release and that it was released without their consent. We have been asked to wait for seven days by the court to determine what will happen next', Now Muzik boss Efe Omorogbe who refused to make further comments until the court case is determined tells NET exclusively.

Hilary Clinton Says No Interest In Position If Obama Wins 2012
Clinton, visiting Cairo, was asked whether she would stay on in a second Obama term. She also was asked if she would like the jobs of president, vice president or defense secretary.
She offered single word responses to each: "No."
Speculation about Clinton's future is always high and she has been mentioned as a possible successor to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who has told Obama he is stepping down. In an interview with CNN television, Clinton made clear she has no interest in running the Pentagon or repeating her 2008 presidential run.
"You know, I had a wonderful experience running and I am very proud of the support I had and very grateful for the opportunity, but I'm going to be, you know, moving on," Clinton said. "I am doing what I want to do right now and I have no intention or any idea even of running again. I'm going to do the best I can at this job for the next two years," she said.
Clinton and Obama competed in 2008 for the Democratic presidential nomination. Obama bested her, won the White House and then named his one-time rival his top diplomat. Clinton immediately became one of the highest profile members of Obama's Cabinet. She has kept a busy international schedule and has been mentioned as a possibly candidate in 2016.
"There isn't anything that I can imagine doing after this that would be as demanding, as challenging or rewarding," Clinton said.
