TY Bello performs live on stage for the first time in years

After years of refusing to perform her songs live on stage (for reason she's never made public), singer and photographer, TY Bello took to the stage to perform for the first time as a solo artist at the Lunch With President Goodluck pre-inauguration ceremony that took place last week Tuesday, May 24 , 2011. She also performed yesterday at the president's inauguration. I hear the last time she performed on stage was as a member of KUSH back in 2004. After 7 years, she's back. Glad she had a change of heart. She's a fantastic singer!

Given the political clime of the nation and the resurgence of hope amongst the youth with respect to the leadership of the country, it is not out of place that the single, aptly named "Good Morning Nigeria", be released at such an auspicious time to awaken Nigerians to the belief of turning this country around. With this musical piece, Lorenzo seeks to preach peace to soothe the country still hurting from the bruises of previous times and also acts as a revolutionary, rousing the listener. Sonically, this rendition is nothing short of a masterpiece, with well-written, hope provoking lyrics and sound production which is an eclectic of cinematic tones, African influences and Caribbean tinges which seek to defy classification into a particular genre. What this means is that Good Morning Nigeria doesn't need to have a target audience as most songs do but is designed for all Nigerians to listen to and make efforts to live in a "Land of hope and peace". The message is simple- Stop sleeping. Arise to your function. 'Uncle Toms' are fast becoming extinct. Awaken to that.

Barcelona outclasses Man United with a performance for the ages

Surely now the doubters have been won over: this Barcelona is one of the greatest teams there has ever been. In Pep Guardiola's three seasons in charge Barca has twice won the Champions League, and it was denied a hat trick that would have placed it statistically alongside the Ajax and Bayern Munich sides of the seventies only by the combined might of Jose Mourinho and an Icelandic volcano. If its flight before last season's semifinal hadn't been grounded by an ash-cloud, if it hadn't had to travel by bus to Milan, would it have lost 3-1 ? Without a two-goal lead would Mourinho's Inter have been able to stifle Barca in Spain? They're imponderables of course, but what is true is that, under Guardiola, whenever tectonics haven't been against it, Barca has won the Champions League -- and won it in devastating fashion. "In my time as a manager," said the United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after the final, "it's the best team we have ever faced. No one has ever given us a hiding like that." United's best chance had seemed to be to score early, and sure enough it began as ferociously as it had against Chelsea. There were moments early on when Barca seemed rattled, but the chance never arrived and as United's early surge ran out of steam slowly the game fell into the pattern of Rome two years ago began to assert itself. Then United had the better of the opening 10 minutes, missed a couple of presentable chances and conceded a soft goal, after which Barca simply kept the ball away from it. This time the goal came later, and was rather harder earned. It had been coming, though. The theory before the game was that if Wayne Rooney sat on Sergio Busquets, United might be able to upset Barca's rhythm. He did that, significantly diminishing Busquets's contribution -- he completed only 73 passes as opposed to a season's average of 100.73 in the Champions League -- but it didn't matter. Xavi simply dropped deeper and performed Busquets's role as the outlet at the back of the midfield (he completed 124 passes against a season average of 106) , the man through whom all attacks were funneled. Iniesta also picked up Busquets's slack with 98 passes completed against a season's average of 84. To put that into context, United's top passer was Rio Ferdinand with 40. And then, of course, there is Lionel Messi. A team can mark Barca perfectly, can neutralize everybody else, but one man is not enough to stop the Argentine. He almost invariably evades the first challenge, which means teams have to double mark him. Do that, and there will be gaps elsewhere: short blanket syndrome is inevitable. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand repeatedly cut out through-balls with last-ditch interceptions, Pedro scuffed wide from an Andres Iniesta cross and David Villa sent a low shot arcing just the wrong side of the post. At the same time Barca's pressing began to tell. There was one sequence when United played a string of nine passes of which six would have been considered risky, and by the end of the move, it hadn't even reached the halfway line. This is what Arsene Wenger referred to as "sterile domination;" perhaps a more accurate term is beautiful attrition. Barca is just relentless; it wears opponents down with passing and pressing until mistakes are inevitable. The first goal came after 27 minutes, as Andres Iniesta broke and fed Xavi, who waited for Vidic to be drawn a fraction toward the ball and threaded a pass through to Pedro, who swept a calm finish in at Edwin van der Sar's near post. In Rome, having scored, Barca simply kept the ball away from United, but here it was a touch sloppy, perhaps lulled by all the pre- match talk that if it got the first goal there would be no way back for United. And unlike the 2009 final, United didn't panic having fallen behind. It continued to press high, and when, after 34 minutes, Ferdinand dispossessed Villa well inside the Barca half as he tried to gather an Eric Abidal throw-in, the ball fell for Rooney. He played a one-two with Michael Carrick, then fed Giggs, ran on, took the return and sidefooted a precise finish past Victor Valdes. Even performing relatively well, even sticking to the game plan, that proved the only chance United would have in the half. Pedro and Messi were each a fraction from getting onto balls played across goal even before halftime and after the break the pummeling went on. Messi's was a moment of individual brilliance, but to affect it he needed the space brought by United's exhaustion. Almost all game until then Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs had occupied that crucial space in front of the back four, denying Messi space as Xabi Alonso had for most of the first leg of Barcelona's semifinal against Real Madrid. Finally they were drawn right, the ball was worked to Messi who darted into the space that had appeared, and lashed in a swerving finish. This is the problem sides facing Barca have; Messi is so good that he needs only a fraction of a second to do something devastating. Barca has achieved that happy -- perhaps unique - balance of having one of the greatest players there has ever been operating within a ruthlessly coherent team unit. Thereafter it felt very like Rome, as United chased but couldn't win the ball back -- realistically this was an exhibition. By the time the third came, curled in by David Villa after a Messi run had been checked by Nani and Pedro had worked the ball back to him, it had long felt inevitable. Wayne Rooney had said that when he watched Barcelona beat Real Madrid 5-0 earlier this season he had found himself standing in awe. As Barca collected the trophy, Rooney stood on the pitch and applauded. There can be few more eloquent tributes than that: England's best player standing and clapping a side that had outclassed his own.

8 Messages We Loved From Oprah Winfrey’s Final Show

After 25 years on daytime television, it's mind-boggling to think that Oprah has spent 4,561 days of her life on the Oprah Winfrey Show stage, chronicling the lives of thousands of guests, from the every day person to superstar celebrity. She's battled issues such as substance, drug, domestic and child abuse. She's given her viewers exclusive interviews and changed lives all over the world, not only through her own story of growing up in the backwoods of Mississippi but also through the trials and triumphs of strangers and familiar popular icons. Earlier this week, she held her final show and Oprah literally turned the stage into Sunday service. She used her final hour to deliver a message that was powerful, inspiring and displayed true leadership. Here are eight notable Oprah quotes of inspiration on love, self- confidence, living life to the fullest, being responsible for your own decisions, humility, and much more: On Learning What Love Is: "I am truly amazed that I, who started out in rural Mississippi in 1954 when the vision for a black girl was limited to being either a maid or a teacher in a segregated school, could end up here. It is no coincidence that a lonely little girl who felt not a lot of love, even though my parents and grandparents did the best they could, it is no coincidence that I grew up to feel the genuine kindness, affection, trust and validation from millions of you all over the world. From you whose names I will never know, I learned what love is. You and this show have been the great love of my life." On Being Worthy: "…We often block our own blessings because we don't feel inherently good enough or smart enough or pretty enough or worthy enough. You're worthy because you are born and because you are here. Your being here, your being alive makes worthiness your birthright. You alone are enough." On Embracing Life: Start embracing the life that is calling you and use your life to serve the world." On Being Responsible for Your Life: "Nobody but you is responsible for your life. It doesn't matter what your mama did; it doesn't matter what your daddy didn't do. You are responsible for your life. … You are responsible for the energy that you create for yourself, and you're responsible for the energy that you bring to others.'Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.'" On Everyone Having a Calling: We are all called. Everybody has a calling, and your real job in life is to figure out what that is and get about the business of doing it. It lights you up and it lets you know that you are exactly where you're supposed to be, doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing. I want for all of you [...] to live from the heart of yourself. You have to make a living; I understand that. But you also have to know what sparks the light in you so that you, in your own way, can illuminate the world." On Never Feeling Superior to Anyone: I learned from the guests on this show, no need to feel superior to anybody. Because whether it's heroin addiction or gambling addiction or shopping addiction or food addiction, work addiction, the root is all the same. The show has taught me there is a common thread that runs through all of our pain and all of our suffering, and that is unworthiness. Not feeling worthy enough to own the life you were created for. Even people who believe they deserve to be happy and have nice things often don't feel worthy once they have them. On Listening to God: "The only time I've ever made mistakes is when I didn't listen. So what I know is, God is love and God is life, and your life is always speaking to you. First in whispers. … It's subtle, those whispers. And if you don't pay attention to the whispers, it gets louder and louder. What I've gleaned from this show: Whispers are always messages, and if you don't hear the message, the message turns into a problem. And if you don't handle the problem, the problem turns into a crisis. And if you don't handle the crisis, disaster. Your life is speaking to you. What is it saying?" On Being Rejected: "When we went national, I remember at the time, Roger King told me that one station manager said that he'd rather put a potato in a chair in his market than have a big black girl with a funny name. And in spite of that, from Memphis to Macon, from Pittsburgh to Pensacola, from New York to New Orleans, you all let me in." Who will fill that void on daytime television? She will be missed..

Alicia Keys Featured In W Magazine

In 2006, legendary folk/rock singer Bob Dylan said of Alicia Keys , "There's nothing about that girl I don't like," and that's a sentiment that her fans, internationally, have agreed upon ever since she stepped on the scene in 2001. She commemorates the ten- year anniversary of her burst of musical revolution with a spread in the upcoming issue of W magazine . Inside, she talks about what it was like being a girl from New York's Hell's Kitchen with big dreams and vowing to stay true to herself and her sound while trying to make it in the music industry. "I just wanted to be who I was, which was like so many other girls I knew. We grew up in the city, had a hard edge and obstacles to overcome, but we were still young and beautiful. I didn't want to be all dressed up, all made up—I wanted to be myself, which hadn't been done before." "I was a young girl with very strong ideas but no experience. I just knew that everything else I was doing was wrong—that all the suggestions weren't what was in my mind, they weren' t what it was meant to be." "How terrible would it have been if I had come out with some watered-down version of who I am? People fell in love with the real me, and I still feel blessed that that was how the journey began."

Rita Dominic’s Speech At The Presidential Lunch

Rita Dominic
Below is the speech presented by Rita Dominic at the presidential lunch on May 22, 2011 at the Eko Hotel and Suites
I feel privileged to be living in a time where I can proudly say that young Nigerians are seriously advocating for a better Nigeria. Some people may disagree with me but I believe we may now have a President willing to listen to us and identify with our hopes and aspirations.
If you don’t agree, then you have to show me a past president of Nigeria who has actively pursued the youth vote? Show me a past Nigerian president who has used social networks utilized by our young people to reach out them? Show me a past president who has set aside a 200 million dollar intervention fund dedicated to an industry that is one of the largest employers of young people in Nigeria…. I rest my case.
My name is Rita Dominic, I represent NOLLYWOOD!
I would like to thank Mr. President, for providing this low interest loan to galvanize our industry. Many young people who own production companies are depending on this loan to turn us from employees to employers, from unemployed to employed.
However, it is imperative that the people who will administer this fund understand the spirit behind your creating it in the first place. Some of us have applied for the loan but the requirement of collateral in the traditional sense is about to dash that dream. Sir, if the youth had enough collateral, we would not have needed the intervention in the first place. I respectfully request that you look into the litany of requirements that is making the loan inaccessible to the people it was created for.
One properly produced Nigerian film can involve hundreds of young people from various works of life. Apart from the actors and actresses, when making a quality film, we directly or indirectly hire production managers, accountants for budgeting and record keeping, electricians (Lighting specialists), costume designers (tailors), catering people (cooks), set and production designers, camera operators, publicity people, graphic artists, still photographers, make up people, hair stylists, production assistants who help on set but don’t forget each actor/actress will hire own PAs, film editors, boom persons and marketing companies. The list goes on and on.
Imagine that we have scores of productions going on in various parts of the country. The impact is simply amazing.
Mr. President, I am a witness to what an infusion of funds can do to elevate and empower the lives of young people. Traders in Onitsha and Aba started it 20 years ago and Nollywood became a reality, Globacom did it for 13 young people 2 years ago and it instantly increased the number of actors and actresses producing their own films. If managed properly, imagine what the 200 million dollar fund can do hundreds of young producers, what it can do for thousands of unemployed youth out there.
Let us make it happen. Continue to support youth programs. Giving such support means that you believe in the future of Nigeria. If you do, the youth will not forget for generations to come.
Thank you

J'odie joins Sammie Okposo's record label

Bet you didn't even know he had one. The gospel singer and UN Ambassador Sammy Okposo has signed the Idol WA finalist to his Zamar Entertainment outfit for a three-year, two album deal. She's the first artist to be signed to the new label. J'odie is a fantastic singer and I hear her first album, which she's already working on, will blow people away.

Mercy Johnson to quit acting after her wedding?

That's what Vanguard is reporting.
Asked whether she will quit acting after her wedding, the sultry actress answered in the affirmative, declaring that “I’m going to quit acting.” She disclosed however that she is planning to go into television and also, to turn a movie producer.
The actress is getting married in a four-day event this August. The court wedding on the 25th, the traditional on the 26th, the white wedding on the 27th, and the thanksgiving on the 28th.

If this report is to be believed, it means another talented actress is forsaking her blossoming career after getting married. Hopefully she's quitting because it's what she wants and not because she's being forced to. Will you be sad to see her leave Nollywood?

Kel – Superwoman + Shayo & Move

Looks like Kel is ready to make a comeback to the music scene as she looks to release a new single every week for 3 weeks. First up is Shayo and Move a Samklef produced track which she released on the web last week. The beat definitely makes up for the mediocre verses, but likeable nonetheless.

‘I’m Still In Mo’Hits’ – Wande Coal Debunks Rumours

Don Jazzy wit Mo'hits' Wande Coal and Kay Switch

It’ll take more than Tweets to quench the rumours. Nevertheless, Wande Coal and his label boss Don Jazzy are hoping that their twitter statements over the supposed feud tearing their relationship apart, will set the record straight and answer lingering questions.
There have always been reports – confirmed or not – of issues within the Mo’Hits camp. Reports of misunderstanding-going-out-of-hand between D’banj and Don Jazzy, D’banj and Ikechuckwu, D’banj and Dr. SID, and now Wande Coal and Don Jazzy keep surfacing. And apart from Ikechukwu whose altercation with D’banj became public, it would seem, because the other parties have carried on with business as usual, that other allegations are either untrue, or blown out of proportion.
Bu when news broke, a few weeks ago, that Wande was unhappy and on his way out, over concerns about the future of his career, many reporters ran with the story, and social media buzzed for days non-stop. Feeling the discomfort, and eager to stop the spreading story, Don Jazzy, who runs Mo’Hits with his partner D’banj wrote on Twitter ‘I think it helps to always wish your neighbours well sha. Some people just wanna imagine the worst by force. Positive mind doesn’t kill o’…. ‘I know a lot of good things that happens in the music industry everyday to different people but I don’t see in the papers o, but they’re quick to prophesy evil on a lot of people everyday not remembering that the word of the mouth is powerful’… ‘I’m sure the next news I will be read is ‘DON BABA J SACKS DON JAZZY FROM MOHITS. FIRE ON THE MOUNATAIN RUN RUN RUN’.
And in what seemed like a reluctant comment, Wande Coal tweeted ‘I’m still in Mo’Hits and I and working on the album’.
‘The album’ – that’s what fans have been waiting for; what pundits are asking for. And the non-availability of ‘The album’ of a single new WC cut for that matter, for years, is certainly what’s either causing the Mohits feud, if there’s any; or what’s making gossips think and say WC is ‘unhappy and planning to take a walk’.
The Mohits boys have mastered a winning formular; and instead of anyone throwing in a spanner in the works, we’d think what most well-meaning people desire, is for the boys to continue the domination while the smart ones among their peers take their notebooks and take lessons- lessons from Dbanj; lessons from Don Jazzy; lessons from Mohits.
There’s one lesson those calling the shots at Mohits need to take first though: It’s about time they stop pushing the crew as ‘Dbanj and the boys’. Each Mohits act has the capacity to be as big as Dbanj, if not bigger. And the sooner they start pushing other acts as individual brands that can compete in the market space, rather than as ‘second fiddles to Dbanj’, the better for the label and their investors…

Shots Fired! Osama Bin Laden’s Mistress Kola Boof Accuses Wale Of Hating Black Women ‘Chimp Brained Nigerian’

Rapper Wale and a woman who once had an affair with terrorist Osama bin Laden, got into a heated argument on Twitter over the choice of women Wale used in his “Pretty Girls” video.
Kola Boof, an Egyptian-Sudanese-American novelist, activist and poet attacked the rapper in a series of angry tweets accusing him of being a “self-hating n*ggerstock b*stard,” because of his use of lighter skinned women in the video.
There wasn’t a single Black woman in “Pretty Girls”…so what in the f*ck was he saying about African women?? His own race?” she wrote. “WALE has all the f*cking power in the world as to WHO appears in his music videos. So shut that **LIE** down. As an African Mother….nothing is more disappointing or makes me more ashamed than the mindset of the Black Male.”
Our worst f*cking enemy on this planet…has turned out to be our own sorry ass self-hating sons. PERIOD. WALE is a little Punk B*tch Nigerian Skin Bleacher who wants to escape his own people & gets PAID 2 do so. Wale you ain’t SH*T!!! But a f*cking disgrace to the African people!! F*cking Nigerian Goat motherf*cker. So many of these “B*TCH N*GGERS” need to be f*cking Hung from Trees ……again. 500 yrs. & no growth.”
Wale, who was born to Nigerian immigrant parents, got wind of what was being said and finally replied back.
Kola boof… I won’t beef with you as a rapper, but as a proud black man with intellect. We can show the world what ignorance looks like,” he said. “@kolaboof I can sit up here and say you were porking terrorist…like a lot of your peers say. But I’d rather not, because I’m ignorant to. Whatever relationship you had with Ol’ Boy [bin Laden]. ..and my ignorance to THAT particular subject will keep me quiet. W/ that said u shd 2. your pretentious. Your a disgusting human being, an absolute disgrace to the very people you pretend to endorse.
While Wale eventually took the high road and stopped arguing there, Boof’s rant went on for several more hours.
If #WALE was my goddamn son I’d drown that Chimp-brained Nigerian N*ggerstock motherf*cker. And feed his ass to the Red Ants. Loser mofo!,” she continued. “This man HATES US…hates our whole f*cking existence & wants to escape blackness…and we making him rich!!??
I don’t like Wale because he’s AFRICAN yet hates Black Women & had to be FORCED to put 1 in his videos. To me….a man like WALE….is no different than a f*cking Clansmen. He just gets away with his sh*t bec. he’s dark black. But let WALE have to decide between saving YOU from drowning and a European. He’s a skin bleacher. Might as well be Jergen.”
