Obama wants to take military action against Syria, seeks congress vote
The Syrian government carried out chemical weapons attack in Damascus in the early hours of August 21, killing at least 1,400 people as they slept in their homes. Although the government is denying being behind the attack, president Obama says the military action against Syria is necessary to deter future chemical attacks...not only in Syria but other governments thinking of doing same.
"We cannot and will not turn a blind eye to what happened in Damascus. What message are we sending out if a dictator can gas hundreds of children to death in plain sight without paying a price" Obama saidOnce the US congress reconvenes on September 9th, president Obama will have his answer. Do you think the US should take any military action against Syria? Meanwhile Britain has said they will not take part in any military action against Syria but UK Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted that "he understands and supports president Obama's position"

I WENT TO PRISON. . . by Biodun Laaro
Well literally, but then again its not what you think or maybe it is or even worse. Monday morning and we were all beaming with excitement that we will be visiting THE KIRIKIRI MEDIUM SECRUITY prison on an exercise as part of our community development assignment for NYSC (National youth service corps) scheme.. But then not everyone was irked about the visit so we ended up going in a party of 17, in an exciting drive to kirikiri town. Some part of the team got lost on the way so those of us already at the premises had to WAIT, for a brief while.
Lagos is the 4th Worst City to Live In - Definitely Not My Lagos! Eko Ile!!
For the recent report by the EIU, all cities across the world are awarded scores depending on lifestyle challenges faced by the people living there. Each city is scored on its stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
Lagos was rated poorly and awarded the lowest score for stability. The report also stated of the fast growing African metropolitan city that “Rapid growth is not always a good thing because Lagos is now a magnet for two perpetual threats to peace: pirates and Islamist warriors. Boko Haram have a problem with cities like Lagos and also lots of weaponry.
Pirates threaten trade and use kidnapping as a method of funding. Islamist terrorist groups such as Boko Haram (“Education is forbidden”) want to create their own version of heaven on earth by destroying cities such as Lagos and imposing strict sharia law. Lagos has enormous potential but as yet little to show for it – hence its poor ranking.”
Here is the full list of the 10 worst cities in world to live in;
- Damascus, Syria
- Dhaka, Bangladesh
- Moresby, Papua New Guinea
- Lagos, Nigeria
- Harare, Zimbabwe
- Algiers, Algeria
- Karachi, Pakistan

My Teenage Son is Having Sex?!
He thinks he knows, just like any other teenager about what life is and he thinks he's grown up enough to take decisions on relationships, however he is like any other teenage boy. (He'll shoot me for using his picture - literally) hehehehehe...
But seriously, what do you do when you find out your teenage son is having sex already? Some months ago, I was looking through my "son's" phone (note I have three sons :p so stop trying to guess - he's not the one in the picture above)...and I saw pornographic material on his phone. Was I shocked? Was I bewildered with fear? Was I gonna kill him?
I wasn't shocked! Its a topic parents deal with everytime (I said to myself), so I called on him to ask him a few questions. I showed him the porn on his phone I found and asked him to be honest with me if he had started engaging in sex. He said yes and I took a glass of water before the long dreaded talk began... This kid is fifteen years old by the way. Thankful that I have a good child, I was able to convince him that he shouldn't do it again, spelling out to him the cons of teenage sex. He even pointed out that he knew it was a mistake he made and since then I and my sons have been able to talk about their girlfriends and relationships without fear of my sons having sex...
What's the moral of the story, I hear you ask? We need to get closer to our children, to let them be free to talk to us about any issue. They do not have to be engaged in these issues before we begin to deal with them, we can start to deal with the issues before they manifest and begin to become a cancer that takes and consumes them.
Yes we know its a touchy issue especially for we Nigerians as our culture frowns on openly discussing sex, however there is more shame in our culture as regards teenage/premarital pregnancy. There is still stigma when it comes to HIV and our children getting stds shouldn't even have to become our source of worries if we start talking to them from a young age. We need to teach them that there are consequences to every action they take and some of the consequences could be dire to their future.
How do you deal with these issues? Some tips from you readers would be appreciated as well.
Ekaaro ooo
This week, I urge you to be you, do you and be the best at doing whatever you do. Life is short... Let's make it count. Let's be a blessing to those around us.
Have a fabulous week. Cheers!

How I survived cancer – Vast of Bracket
How did it happen?
I don't know what to say, but first of all, I want to give thanks to God. I was very sick. Before I went to the hospital, I attended a couple of shows. I wondered how I was able to perform at the shows because I was seriously ill.
My partner Obumneme Ali a.k.a Smash and I, had series of shows and in a situation where payment has been made, I had no option than to grace the stage. We decided to round off our shows late last year in order to enable me take care of my health in 2013. But unfortunately, up till January this year, we were still going for concerts. We even had to travel to Australia to stage a concert.
Then, I was visiting one of the hospitals in Lagos, and that was where I was diagnosed. They carried out all the medical examinations, and when the results came out, the Haematologist advised me to seek for further treatment abroad.
If you have travelled to America or any Schengen country within two years, you can apply for a Priority Visa and we were qualified to do so. We applied and within four days, the visa came out. We met a friend in the UK who introduced us to his brother who is a Medical Doctor. He assisted us and we met a Haematologist who advised that I should re-run all the tests again.
The only thing we didn't do was the surgery which I did back home before I was diagnosed of suffering from blood cancer. After everything, they started with the treatment they called "Bone Marrow". It wasn't an easy one, it was very difficult. I thought I would loose all the blood in my body but thank God I survived it. After a week, I started having complications, I had to return to the hospital to have blood transfusion after which I felt better. We spent a lot of money. At a point, I was hopeless and was only praying to God for His mercies.
After the second chemotherapy, I started exercising because the doctor advised me to do regular exercise. However, it was after the third chemotherapy that the pictures I took while in the hospital leaked. By then, I was already bouncing back to life because I passed through the valley of the shadow of death. After the fourth chemotherapy, we shot a video, "Temperature" in London .
I didn't even know I could do that. I initially thought the cycle would be six but before the fifth chemotherapy, the doctor informed us that it was going to be eight. I got confused at that point and even doubted what they were doing. I thought they just wanted to milk me because it was expensive. My manager, partner and Chief Executive Officer however encouraged me to complete the treatment.
I was only going to the hospital, then to the gymnasium and back to the house. After the seventh chemo, I was told to do a Lumber Punch- they would have to inject my spine. It was done after the fifth chemo and it was very painful. I thought I would be paralysed. I was told the Lumber Punch was necessary to prevent the disease from getting to the brain. At that point, our account was almost in the red.
Luckily, a friend known as Ugonna came to London during my third chemo and was moved when he heard that we had accommodation problem. He later gave us some money to look for one. Ugonna was the only person that assisted me financially apart from the prayers and encouragement of my fans and the media. I did the Lumber Punch and lost a lot of blood.
Two days after, I went to get another chemo. When one undergoes chemo, it kills both the good and the bad cells and flushes out all the blood in your system. So, you have to be refreshing. Imagine losing so much blood after the Lumber Punch and after the chemo. I was almost a dead person. My colour overnight. I remembered what the doctor told me that cancer is not the problem but the treatment.
After a week and a half, I started exercising, taking juice and everything that would help build my blood again. I was finally cleared from the hospital and I thank God for His mercies. A lot of people came to our house to rejoice with us when we returned to the country during the week. I want to thank them. The likes of P-Square, Jimmy Jatt, Dammy Krane, KCee, Chidinma, Illbliss, JMartins and many others.
What kind of cancer did you have?
I had Lymphoma. It is a blood cancer. When I asked the doctor what caused the cancer of the blood, he said, nobody knows the cause for now. According to him, it's like a situation where a dark complexion couple making a baby and the baby turns out to be an albino and if you are asked to explain why, you cannot tell.
I must say that when I was hospitalized, my partner was doing a good job. He would call the producer and they would make a beat and send it to me. He even made the chorus. I picked one of the songs when I came back and hit the studio. We did one of the tracks, it was fantastic. We did another song and it was good as well, all within two days.
During the seven months of your ordeal, what kept you going?
What kept me going was God. Before I went for the treatment, I saw myself dying slowly. We got the visa and contacted the Medical Doctor that attended to us. It was no doubt the handiwork of God. This doctor handles only cancer related cases. My family, my manager, partner and CEO were there for me. We travelled together. They made sure I was well taken care of, while my ordeal lasted.
Interestingly, when the picture I took while in the hospital leaked, I was reading the outpour of love, prayers and soothing words from my fans. Some of them even said, they would die if I die. Then the press guys were there for me. They were keeping tabs of my progress and informing my fans duly. All of these, did a whole lot in keeping me going. That's why I got the courage and I know that it has always been God, my family, the media and my fans.
What have you learnt from your experience?
I learnt that life is very precious. No matter what you do and wherever you are, don't look down on anybody because you don't know who will help you tomorrow. Another thing is that you don't have to be scared of death. You have to face the challenge. Live a normal life. If you are scared of death, you will die. At a point, when I got very scared, the sickness came in full force, but when I started picking courage, it subsided and I recovered.

Incredible! Boy Flies From Benin To Lagos In Arik Aircraft's Wheel
A teenage boy left many speechless as he breached Airport security in Benin when he clinged onto the tyre hold of an Arik Aircraft from Benin to Lagos which had top Edo Governement officials on board.
The Aircraft with registration number, 5N-MJG Flight 44, left Benin Airport at 9am for Lagos and when it landed at the domestic wing of MMA in Lagos, the boy jumped out and was later arrested to know what his mission was.
Here is what the airline's spokesperson, Banji Ola said about the incident below;
The management of Arik Air has expressed shock over the incident wondering how the teenager beat the Aviation Security personnel at the Benin Airport to get to the runway.
The pilot of Arik Air flight W3 544, departing Benin Airport for Lagos at 9.00am today 24th August, 2013 reported to the control tower the presence of a strange boy in the bush about 200 – 300 meters at the end of runway 23.
The control tower told the Captain that they were sending security men to the place to arrest the boy.
As the captain was making his final turn, preparatory for take-off, a cabin crew called his attention to the information by some of the passengers that they saw a boy running towards the airplane. The First Officer confirmed that they had observed it earlier and alerted the control tower which responded that they have sent the patrol team to arrest the boy.
The Captain again reported to the control tower and was informed that the situation was under control and that he had been cleared for take-off. On arrival at the domestic wing of MMA, Lagos, a teenage boy, who apparently had sneaked into the aircraft main wheel well jumped out and was arrested by Arik personnel and handed over to FAAN security.

Let's Talk About Him
When I felt unhappiness, He was my joy. The merry-ness of my heart was as a result of His influence in my life. When I felt all alone, He was my burden-bearer. When I mourned, He alone comforted me from the depth of His heart. In times of my need, He did supply all, according to His riches in glory.
He is the son of God, the risen Jesus who came and died for you and me. I will tell of His love. I will tell of His wonders. He can be all this and more if you let Him in. Just say this short prayer. "Jesus, I acknowledge that I have sinned, please forgive me of all - I believe you are the son of God who came and died for me so that I may live, please come into my life and renew me. Thank you because you have answered - In Jesus name I prayed".
If you said this prayer, join a bible believing church. I trust that the God of wonders would start His wonders in you today. Cheers! :)
25-Year Old Nigerian Invents A Power Generating Football
The ball can generate three hours light if played for 30mins at home. It is also versatile and not only about the electricity we see, but can be used to charge mobile phones and fans.
It will soon be made available for sale in Nigeria and the cost would be equivalent to what people pay for a solar inverter, she said.

So I Took The HIV Test...
Long and short of the issue was I was diagnosed with a very significant amount of Typhoid salmonella infection.
I had treated this for over 6 months with the illness making its comeback usually after a month of relief and I had spent a lot of money on hospitals and drugs. Long and short of it was that I was tired. It seemed the illness has developed resistance to anti-biotics as I learned it usually did (especially the salmonella strain). However, my last set of tests with the doctor was the funny one. Not so funny shaaa...
The doctor began with questions like "are you sexually active?", "When last did you take an HIV test?", "Have you ever treated an STD"... In my mind, my eyes were rolling and cursing her for thinking such evil thoughts towards me.. I was like "I came here for a typhoid treatment and you're here talking gibberish about HIV".
"Emi, fine boy no pimple, HIV positive?". Of course I know HIV "no dey show for face", but I was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that I wasn't positive, or was I? The mind games had started.. My intelligence made me start "googling" symptoms of HIV, and many other not-so-silly things that I should have known prior to the doctor's questions..
The doctor asked me one last question - "will you be willing to take any test". I heaved finally said yes - just to prove to her for thinking I was positive that I could never be... I wanted to laugh at her when the result came out...I wanted to say "shame on you for thinking such of me (all due respect to HIV patients)".. I wanted to...
The results came out and I was HIV ......
Was I devastated? Was I happy? Was I moody? Was I broken? You'll never know.
All you'll know is I took my first HIV test and I know my status. Take yours today. HIV is real, ignorance is no excuse. Know you status today.

When They Do The UK Proud They are British Citizens, When They Don't They are British Citizens of Nigerian descent
At least 16 medal-winners have family links to Nigeria, including 400m silver medal-winner Christine Ohoruogu, 28, whose parents moved to Britain in 1980 while 23 year-old boxing bronze medal-winner Anthony Ogogo's father is Nigerian. These UK greats are announced and applauded by the British press as Britons as they have done their country of birth, albeit country of immigration proud.
Its however saddening that whenever a negative imagery is the case on one of these legal immigrants with British Citizenry, their roots are however brought to the light. British citizens are the holiest or aren't criminals? Hahahaha I laugh in spanish!
Britain should worry about the fact that there might be an emerging "home grown" terrorist, albeit immigrants with British citizenry instead of playing the diplomacy cards in addressing the issue.
Everyone is concerned with the growing trend of terrorism and I am particularly saddened by the fact that my country, Nigeria is one of the nations dealing with the issue of terrorism at the moment. I am saddened by the fact that these extremists attack schools every now and then in northern Nigeria with a lot of children perishing for what they know nothing about.
It is dis pleasing and disheartening to know I cannot visit some parts of my country without feeling secure, however what I won't stand for is a country refusing to take responsibility for its own. The "Nigerian-British" suspects responsible for the killing of the British soldier in the UK earlier on this year did a terrible thing and should be punished for their crime but does that indicates to Britain that all Nigerians should be labelled or stereotyped as terrorists? After all both suspects have never lived in Nigeria.
If they are British in good times, they should be British in bad times too. God bless Nigeria! God save the Queen!
If Every Man.... (Floetry)
If every man would love her with all his might
If every man would try or strive to get it right
If every man....
Remember one day you'll have daughters too
Do you want them played around like a pool table's cue ball?
Treat every woman, lady or girl
The way you'll want your woman, sister or mother treated
Oh if every man would protect the women around him from the wolves that pretend to be lambs only to devour
If every man would stop laughing at cheap jokes when his friends come around and talk about how they played a lady who could turn out to be his sister, lover or friend
I guess not every man will, I know not every man will
But I guess its okay to write this to let every man know its his duty to protect every woman..

Blessing Okagbare wins silver medal at IAAF World Championships
Blessing won the silver medal in the long jump event final today Sunday August 11th after jumping an impressive 6.99m.
The last time Nigeria won a medal at the Athletic World Championship was in 1999. We're hoping for more... We hail her for representing us as she has done.
Standing ovation!
So I Became A Teacher...
However, I detested everything about the job; low salaries, annoying kids.. I often wondered what made her stay.
Prior to completing my NYSC and during my service year, I took up a teaching job. I didn't like it from the beginning but as my bible would say, "whatever your hands findeth to do, do it to the best of your ability" (not exact quotes, let's call it TT's version.. Lol).
I was trained the military way and I had attended military schools in Lagos. I tried using military techniques to ensure discipline, it worked! (The kids feared their maths teacher).. They were however reading to pass instead of reading to know.. I have however learned to be a better teacher.. To be the best that I can be.. I have learned to love this job, love the kids and sincerely care about them as my own kids... The military approached worked, but for a while... Teaching is just more than a discipline, its a social service.
Many children go through so much that shouldn't even be their burden at their level and stage. In my two and half years as a teacher, I counselled students on issues from pre-marital sex, alcoholism, cultism, child-labour, abuse and often more than necessary - children struggling with financial burdens.
It is truly a cruel world out there and we should protect our children as a society. So many ills out there. The children are the next generation. Its easy to father a child but not easy to train one. Please, please and please, be responsible and not bring into this world children you will not be able to take care of. Call this a 2-pence article but I write this with a sorrowful heart.
To the teachers, God bless you as you train these kids to the best of your abilities. You could be the only love in this world the children will know.

Barcelona striker, Neymar ‘diagnosed with anemia'
However, according to the paper signs of anemia were detected on his return to training after an extended summer break due to his participation in the Confederations Cup.
“Neymar is being treated by Barcelona’s doctors for signs of anemia with an adequate diet and complementary course of vitamins,” it said on Saturday without quoting a source for the story.
Barcelona were not immediately available for comment, but the club had previously confirmed that the player had his tonsils removed after leading his country to victory in the Confederations Cup.
Anemia is a treatable condition but is thought to be extremely debilitating for top athletes as a low level of hemoglobin in the blood stream can cause excessive levels of tiredness.
The news is also likely to disrupt the club’s plans to work intensively on building on the 21-year-old’s strength after club doctor Ricard Pruna expressed concerns at his slight weight of 64.5 kilos (142 lbs, 10.2 stone) when he underwent his medical.
Neymar made his home bow against old club Santos on Friday night as he played 45 minutes in Barca’s 8-0 destruction of the Brazilians and has travelled with his teammates to take part in coaching clinics in Palestine and Israel before they embark on a tour of Asia with friendlies in Thailand and Malaysia.
