Please Bez, More You…

SONG TITLE – More You
PRODUCER – Cobhams
ALBUM –   Super Sun
VIDEO DIRECTOR – Kemi Adetiba
LOCATION – Lagos, Nigeria
Just as Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, so did I. I had a dream that someday I would sit on my couch with a girl (mine preferably as she would probably read this article someday) and watch a Nigerian music video, a video that would tell such a beautiful story that it would leave the woman beside me mushy, cuddly, in tears and yes, in my arms. Thanks to Bez Idakula aka Bez, and his debut video More You from his much-anticipated debut album Super Sun, my dream came true way before Christmas.
With a storyline similar to an excerpt from the 1990 Fantasy drama film Ghost, the Raphael Saadiq double tells a heartrending story of lovers who’ve been torn apart by death yet still yearn daily for each other’s warmth. In another beautifully shot chef-d’oeuvre, emerging director Kemi Adetiba climbs up the creativity ladder, taking the bar with along her for her latest client, Bez.
From the onset of the production, Kemi paid pain-staking attention to every detail in this video ranging from the quality, to the visual construct and even down to the style (God bless the wardrobe unit). Eventually she ‘kills’ it with an attractively fashioned music video that picks up so many different ingredients and in the end, educes the kind of responses any good music video should. More You will definitely make the ladies cry but be sure to keep a keen lookout because I prophesy unto thee, quite a number of grown men shall be caught stifling a tear or two.
Armed with his rather eloquent guitar, Bez calls his chosen musical genre Alternative Soul, a usually downplayed interbred of soul, jazz and R&B music. His brand of music sees him tread a path which sets him well apart from the main stream Nigerian hip-hop movement and with this expertly done video, it seems as though this unique ‘up-and-comer’ is finally ready to launch an assault on the music industry.
