ACTIVATING THE COVENANT by Pastor Kenny Folarin

 Hebrews 8:6
Activating means to operate or to cause something to work. Knowing the covenant only, is not guarantee it will work in our lives. What guarantees its functionality is to know and do it God’s way. We need to know how to do it and get the results God wants us to get. Psalm 103: 7 declares that ‘God made known His ways to Moses and His acts to the children of Israel. The children of Israel only took advantage of the goodies from God but were not interested on how those things were acquired. On the other hand, Moses was always hearing from God knowing His way and His moves. God wants us to understand His ways more than His acts because if we know the ways of God we’ll know how to provoke the acts of God. The ways of God are always superior to the acts of God. It is only babies that are interested in acts; all they want is to get what suits them right now.
The ways of God are His principles whereas his acts are His results. As covenant people of God we should be interested in knowing God’s ways and not just be satisfied with His acts. We must not wait for instance for someone to pray for us before we can get healed; we must know how to pray and get healed by ourselves. God wants us to understand His principles so that we can reproduce the results over and over again. The following are tips on how to activate the covenant:
You must die (figuratively): To die means putting down your life under God’s control, leaving God to have the final say over your life; it means absolute surrender to the will of God; Hebrews 9: 16. If the covenant will be successful then the covenanters must die; Matthew 16: 24. Marriage is a blood covenant and if one will succeed in it then, selfishness must die inside the people involved.
Obedience: This is another thing required of us to activate the covenant. Total obedience to God’s instruction is the simplicity in Christianity. Every time we act in obedience to God’s instruction there is a supernatural release of God’s power on our behalf; Isaiah 1: 19. Sometimes we only obey God when it is easy and convenient but God demands total obedience.
Holiness: Genesis 17: 1 records God asking Abraham to live a perfect and blameless life. To enjoy God, we need to live holy. Let’s develop hatred for sin.
Service to God: We must serve God to enjoy the benefits of our covenant with God. God wants us to make use of our lives for Him. God want us to use our time, talents and treasures to serve Him.
Have faith in God’s Word: God is not a man that He should lie nor the son of man that He should repent therefore let’s believe and hold on to whatever God says. Without faith it is impossible to please God; Hebrews 11: 6. Believe God’s word over every other report. Speak and act on God’s word.
We will succeed as we operate the covenant. God bless you
