Excellence in people care by Sam Adeyemi

Phillippians 1: 9-10

The foundation of excellence is love. Compassion is the greatest motivation for excellence. Apostle Paul admonishes us in Philippians 1:9-10, to grow in love; the more we love, the more we raise our standards and quality of service towards each other. Love makes us believe that people deserve much more than we can offer.
Love is the greatest commandment. Jesus Christ summed up all the commandments as loving God with the best of you and loving people as you love yourself. John, in 1 John 4:20-21, clarifying what Jesus said, reasoned that if you love God, then you must love your neighbour, thus, loving God and loving your neighbour go hand-in-hand. The proof of loving God is in loving people, otherwise you are a liar.

Every human being is an extension of God. Everything you do to man affects God because there's a part of God in everybody. When you see people through God's eyes, you see differently, you realise that every human being – rich/poor, black/white, tall/short – deserves to be loved, respected and treated right. Jesus Christ, while He was on earth, treated everybody He came in contact with, with love; He was always moved with compassion, so He healed the sick and fed the hungry. We should emulate His example.

In Nigeria, the spirit of Cain, a spirit of indifference and self-centredness, is rife; 'every man for himself', this should not be so. Jesus saw people through excellent eyes, and because there's no excellence in hunger and disease, He healed and fed them. Every Nigerian is an excellent extension of an excellent God; therefore every Nigerian deserves to be treated with high standards of service and spoken to politely.

It begins with the right attitude. A Christian should not be shaped by the environment; rather Christians should influence their environment positively. We have got to take a firm decision to be different and not be part of the prevalent decadence. Armed with the right attitude, we would provide excellent services and leadership. God rewards excellence.
