During an interview with Essence magazine, Alicia Keys claims that she was not the reason her current husband, Swizz Beatz, recently divorced his first wife, Mashonda. The singer explained that she did not start dating the hitmaker "until months after they had separated" and added that she was "hurt" by "all the false things" that were being reported. Keys further explained that she did not speak up against the rumors at the beginning of her relationship with Swizz because she felt it "would have made things worse." Alicia went on to say that "things are really good now" between her and Mashonda, who considers her a "partner" in raising her son with the famous producer.
