Nigerian Idol Studios Burns - No Serious Injuries or Casualties, Thank Goodness

Dreams Studio located at Omole, Ikeja where the popular Nigerian Idol reality show is shot was gutted by fire in the early hours of Tuesday, January 24, 2012.

Fremantle Media Enterprises, organizers of the Nigerian Idol show confirmed the incident via the show's Twitter account. 'We regret to tell our fans and followers of the show that we woke up to discover a fire situation at our studio this morning!', @NigerianIdol tweeted.

'Thanks to the swift response of the fire services and neighbouring residents who immensely assisted, the fire was put out' they stated.

An insider at the studio told our reporter that the fire started at about 7:30am this morning. 'A janitor, Andrew went to turn on the generator, a socket sparked and the fire started. While resuming his cleaning duties, he saw a smoke in the admin part of the block and raised an alarm', a source who would rather remain anonymous told our sources.

Those who were present when the fire broke out then tried to evacuate all the cameras, lighting and other equipment. 'The admin area of the building was affected but the recording studio wasn't. Recording will go on.' We learn that the section where the fire started is all burnt up, including the roof.

Another staff tells us 'The rehearsal room was also affected. Minor cable damages, that's all'.

The Fire Emergency Squad was also called upon and they got there five minutes later. It is believed the quick response of the Fire Emergency Squad reduced major damages that would have been caused.

Andrew has been taken to the police station to write a statement about the incident.
