The actress will be on probation for three years.
The Wire's Felicia Pearson has pleaded guilty to real life drug charges. The actress gained fame for her portrayal of a drug dealer's assassin in HBO's Baltimore-based crime drama, but made real-life headlines recently for her alleged role in pushing heroin. Upon news of her arrest, the show's creator, David Simon , wrote a piece defending Pearson and touched on the lack of available options for actresses like her. However, now that she's cut a deal that will keep her out of prison, perhaps Simon can develop a role for her in the near future. Pearson's attorneys made the deal the day before her trial was to begin. She will plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and in exchange will receive credit for time served and a suspended seven-year sentence.
Pearson will be under probation for three years, but during that period she will be allowed to leave the state of Maryland on a provisional basis for work. "I would have been found not guilty," the actress said of her deal. Her lawyer quickly interjected and began to field reporters' questions on his clients' behalf. The 31 -year-old did make one additional statement, though. When asked how she'll avoid legal trouble in the future, she replied, "I'm moving to L.A."
