To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Nigerian independence, MTV base (DStv Channel 322) is celebrating Nigerian contemporary music, with a special I Love Naija themed weekend, running from 1 to 3 October.
During this long weekend, MTV will pay tribute to Nigeria’s finest contemporary musicians.
Some of the programmes lined up include a special Naija-themed edition of DJ Takeover hosted by Naija legendary DJ Snypes, the official disc jockey to Nigerian pop icon, 2face Idibia.
Premiering at 21:00 Nigeria local time, other activities include Story of Seun Kuti, an intimate portrait of one of Nigeria’s most intriguing music stars, a special Nigerian edition of MVP: Most Voted Play list, Nigerian Super Stars, Leaders of the Nigerian Nu Skool, an MTV Base special focus on the Nigerian hip hop scene.
For fans anticipating the 2010 awards in Lagos, there will also be a screening of the 2008 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain from Abuja, Nigeria, on Saturday, 2 October, at 19:00 Nigeria local time and a glance at the Road To MAMA, Lagos as well a rundown of Naija’s Top 20 Best Videos on Sunday, 3 October.
