Mary J. Blige to Sing National Anthem at World Series

MJB teams with MLB for Game 1 of series.

Mary J. Blige is set to sing the national anthem to open Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday (Oct. 23), reports the Associated Press. The queen of hip hop soul will hit Boston's Fenway Park, where the hometown Red Sox will face the St. Louis Cardinals.
Blige previously sang the national anthem before Game 6 of the 2009 World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.
This year, the multi-Grammy winner takes the mound having just released her first ever holiday album, A Mary Christmas, co-produced by David Foster. "I had to make this record not only for the world, and Foster's fans, and new people, but I have to make it for the people who got me here, which is my fans," Blige told Grammy.com of the effort, which dropped Oct. 15, featuring the likes of Barbra Streisand and Mark Anthony.
Game 1 airs live from Beantown on FOX tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET.

With the Young Designer of the Year award, young fashion designers are offered the opportunity to be participants at targeted seminars and workshops facilitated by the British Council and a chance to exhibit their collection in front of a select audience and judiciary at the Lagos Fashion and Design Week.

 

This year, they’ve picked 10 of what promises to be the best young fashion designers out of Nigeria to show their competing collections and be crowed the Lagos Fashion & Design Week Young Designer Entrepreneur of the Year, win N4 Million Naira and a 6 month paid Internship with International Ethical brand, Edun to name a few.

Ayo Elizabeth Olagoun | Ayo Van Elmar

The Ayo Van Elmar label has been described as having a uniqueness that stems from her ability to create designs that cut across cultures and continents.

Ayo Elizabeth Olagoun, the Creative Director of the young fashion brand, draws her main inspiration from her experience as an Afro-European. Her trans-cultural lifestyle has truly impacted her work. Ayo graduated from the University of Vienna as a certified nutritionist. After her graduation, she crossed over to the Master’s program for fashion, her real passion, at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, an institution renowned for its challenging curriculum and top-notch professors (the list of former visiting professors includes names like Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood).

Footballer Samuel Eto'o spends £4million on four exotic cars

Four time African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto'o a few weeks back spent 4million pounds on four exotic cars. He bought a £1.55m Bugatti Veyron which was specially delivered to the Chelsea striker's London club's training ground, The Sun reports.

He also bought an Aston Martin One-77 worth £1.25m, a luxury Maybach Xenatec worth £750,000 and an Aston Martin V12 Zagato worth £450,000.

The Cameroonian has always been a fan of cars and spends big on cars but what is one man going to do with all these cars?

Dangote set to build world’s best 1000-bed capacity hospital in Kano

The richest man in Africa Aliko Dangote is set to build the world's best 1000-bed capacity hospital in Kano via his Dangote Foundation. The 1,000 bed capacity ultramodern medical theatre complex will be constructed within the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano and will cost N2billion to build. It has been named Mariya Sanusi Dantata.

The hospital would comprise of a diagnostic laboratory, 10 operating theatres, 3 intensive care units, patients’ wards and administrative/service rooms for doctors and nurses. On Tuesday October 1st Aliko Dangote explained why he's building the hospital...

“It is not just about building a best in class medical facility in Kano state, it is about fulfilling our commitment to sustainably improving the health and well-being of Nigerians. We believe that every Nigerian has a right to quality healthcare, we also believe that it is our collective duty to rally our resources to improve health infrastructure, support the development of health care professionals and improve preventive health measures in Nigeria,"
