25-Year Old Nigerian Invents A Power Generating Football

25-year-old Nigerian lady, Jessica Matthews, has invented a power-generating football called Soccket ball. She was at the presidential villa yesterday where she presented the ball to the president.

The ball can generate three hours light if played for 30mins at home. It is also versatile and not only about the electricity we see, but can be used  to charge mobile phones and fans.

It will soon be made available for sale in Nigeria and the cost would be equivalent to what people pay for a solar inverter, she said.

So I Took The HIV Test...

For a few months now I had been strong. Tests here and there showed a large percentage of typhoid infection (I Lived in Akure for one year prior to this infection and while there, I cooked and did drink water from the well - albeit boiled water).

Long and short of the issue was I was diagnosed with a very significant amount of Typhoid salmonella infection.

I had treated this for over 6 months with the illness making its comeback usually after a month of relief and I had spent a lot of money on hospitals and drugs. Long and short of it was that I was tired. It seemed the illness has developed resistance to anti-biotics as I learned it usually did (especially the salmonella strain). However, my last set of tests with the doctor was the funny one. Not so funny shaaa...

The doctor began with questions like "are you sexually active?", "When last did you take an HIV test?", "Have you ever treated an STD"... In my mind, my eyes were rolling and cursing her for thinking such evil thoughts towards me.. I was like "I came here for a typhoid treatment and you're here talking gibberish about HIV".

"Emi, fine boy no pimple, HIV positive?". Of course I know HIV "no dey show for face", but I was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that I wasn't positive, or was I? The mind games had started.. My intelligence made me start "googling" symptoms of HIV, and many other not-so-silly things that I should have known prior to the doctor's questions..

The doctor asked me one last question - "will you be willing to take any test". I heaved finally said yes - just to prove to her for thinking I was positive that I could never be... I wanted to laugh at her when the result came out...I wanted to say "shame on you for thinking such of me (all due respect to HIV patients)".. I wanted to...

The results came out and I was HIV ......
Was I devastated? Was I happy? Was I moody? Was I broken? You'll never know.

When They Do The UK Proud They are British Citizens, When They Don't They are British Citizens of Nigerian descent

More than a third of Britain's London 2012 Olympic medal winners were born abroad or had a foreign parent or grandparent, a new study has suggested, as reiterated by an article by Telegraph papers UK.

At least 16 medal-winners have family links to Nigeria, including 400m silver medal-winner Christine Ohoruogu, 28, whose parents moved to Britain in 1980 while 23 year-old boxing bronze medal-winner Anthony Ogogo's father is Nigerian. These UK greats are announced and applauded by the British press as Britons as they have done their country of birth, albeit country of immigration proud.

Its however saddening that whenever a negative imagery is the case on one of these legal immigrants with British Citizenry, their roots are however brought to the light. British citizens are the holiest or aren't criminals? Hahahaha I laugh in spanish!

Britain should worry about the fact that there might be an emerging "home grown" terrorist, albeit immigrants with British citizenry instead of playing the diplomacy cards in addressing the issue.

Everyone is concerned with the growing trend of terrorism and I am particularly saddened by the fact that my country, Nigeria is one of the nations dealing with the issue of terrorism at the moment. I am saddened by the fact that these extremists attack schools every now and then in northern Nigeria with a lot of children perishing for what they know nothing about.

It is dis pleasing and disheartening to know I cannot visit some parts of my country without feeling secure, however what I won't stand for is a country refusing to take responsibility for its own. The "Nigerian-British" suspects responsible for the killing of the British soldier in the UK earlier on this year did a terrible thing and should be punished for their crime but does that indicates to Britain that all Nigerians should be labelled or stereotyped as terrorists? After all both suspects have never lived in Nigeria.

If they are British in good times, they should be British in bad times too. God bless Nigeria! God save the Queen!

Oh if every man would protect the women around him from the wolves that pretend to be lambs only to devour

If every man would stop laughing at cheap jokes when his friends come around and talk about how they played a lady who could turn out to be his sister, lover or friend

I guess not every man will, I know not every man will
But I guess its okay to write this to let every man know its his duty to protect every woman..

Blessing Okagbare wins silver medal at IAAF World Championships

Nigerian athlete Blessing Okagbare has won Nigeria's first medal at the ongoing IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Blessing won the silver medal in the long jump event final today Sunday August 11th after jumping an impressive 6.99m.

The last time Nigeria won a medal at the Athletic World Championship was in 1999. We're hoping for more... We hail her for representing us as she has done.

So I Became A Teacher...

My mum while growing up was a teacher. She still works presently in the education line but as a high ranked staff and she loves her job.

However, I detested everything about the job; low salaries, annoying kids.. I often wondered what made her stay.

Prior to completing my NYSC and during my service year, I took up a teaching job. I didn't like it from the beginning but as my bible would say, "whatever your hands findeth to do, do it to the best of your ability" (not exact quotes, let's call it TT's version.. Lol).

I was trained the military way and I had attended military schools in Lagos. I tried using military techniques to ensure discipline, it worked! (The kids feared their maths teacher).. They were however reading to pass instead of reading to know.. I have however learned to be a better teacher.. To be the best that I can be.. I have learned to love this job, love the kids and sincerely care about them as my own kids... The military approached worked, but for a while... Teaching is just more than a discipline, its a social service.

Many children go through so much that shouldn't even be their burden at their level and stage. In my two and half years as a teacher, I counselled students on issues from pre-marital sex, alcoholism, cultism, child-labour, abuse and often more than necessary - children struggling with financial burdens.

It is truly a cruel world out there and we should protect our children as a society. So many ills out there. The children are the next generation. Its easy to father a child but not easy to train one. Please, please and please, be responsible and not bring into this world children you will not be able to take care of. Call this a 2-pence article but I write this with a sorrowful heart.

To the teachers, God bless you as you train these kids to the best of your abilities. You could be the only love in this world the children will know.

Nigerian singer-songwriter, Tiwa Savage is taking a step into the world of  acting, as she will be featuring in the award-winning TV drama ‘Shuga’. Tiwa will be playing the role of Sade, the glamorous owner of a nightclub ’Badoo Tree’.

The TV drama will also feature celebrities who were handpicked director Biyi Bandele, such as:  Beat FM DJ and Morning Rush host Maria Okanrende, who will be playing Foye , an ambitious radio and club DJ with a domineering mother, ‘Oliva Tweest’ actor Dorcas Fapson as Sophie a failing student who’s not averse to using her body to get what she wants and Tinsel star Chris Attoh playing Kofi, a domineering husband.

On Sunday eve, the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria honoured Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, for being enlisted in Time Magazine as one of the most influential people in the world.

For the event, Omosexy rocked a custom black-and-green dress by Kinabuti. She styled the outfit which features a ruffled neck detail and thigh high slit, with black pearl earrings, a black Rolex watch and Kurt Geiger black sandals.

She completed the look with a bun, smoky eyes and nude lipstick. But her most stylish accessory was her hubby Captain Matthew Ekeinde who looked dapper in a black dinner suit.

Rita Dominic, Segun Arinze, Ini Edo, Monalisa Chinda, Timi Dakolo, Chidi Mokeme, Kelechi Amadi-Obi and the AGN President Ibinabo Fiberesima were some of the celebrities present at the event.

It’s Bright Okpocha! Basketmouth to Host 8th Annual Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA) in New York

The Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA) is a few weeks away and all the nominees, members of the entertainment industry and the fans are looking forward to a great night of celebration anchored by a great host.

Barcelona striker, Neymar ‘diagnosed with anemia'

Barcelona striker Neymar has reportedly been put on a special diet by the club’s medical staff to ease signs of anemia just days after he made his debut for the club, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais. The Brazilian international joined the Catalan giants in June for 57 million euros ($75.7 million, £49.5 million) and made his long-awaited debut last week in a 2-2 friendly draw against Lechia Gdasnk in Poland.
However, according to the paper signs of anemia were detected on his return to training after an extended summer break due to his participation in the Confederations Cup.

“Neymar is being treated by Barcelona’s doctors for signs of anemia with an adequate diet and complementary course of vitamins,” it said on Saturday without quoting a source for the story.
Barcelona were not immediately available for comment, but the club had previously confirmed that the player had his tonsils removed after leading his country to victory in the Confederations Cup.
Anemia is a treatable condition but is thought to be extremely debilitating for top athletes as a low level of hemoglobin in the blood stream can cause excessive levels of tiredness.
The news is also likely to disrupt the club’s plans to work intensively on building on the 21-year-old’s strength after club doctor Ricard Pruna expressed concerns at his slight weight of 64.5 kilos (142 lbs, 10.2 stone) when he underwent his medical.
Neymar made his home bow against old club Santos on Friday night as he played 45 minutes in Barca’s 8-0 destruction of the Brazilians and has travelled with his teammates to take part in coaching clinics in Palestine and Israel before they embark on a tour of Asia with friendlies in Thailand and Malaysia.
